Re: Bandmates
WOW!!!!!!!!!!! You have gigged almost every weekend for that last 5 years. No wonder you are 1 step away from a fist fight. Maybe a good fist fight is in order. Maybe you should take a little time off to unwind. If you are an original band than covers shouldn't be too important. Jist pick several popular songs and go with them.

Re: Bandmates
Maybe you need to sit down outside of rehearsal and discuss why you can't agree on the new music. Try not to use insulting terms about the other guys' stuff that you each don't want to play.
Is someone having trouble learning the stuff?
Some feel the best defense is a good offense and it's easier to say "that sucks" than "I can't figure it out". You need to calmly get to the bottom of the musical differences.
If some of you are looking for greener pastures, like other bands, it'd be best to admit that openly rather than start a fistfight just so you can quit. The grass always seems greener on the other side, but it
usually is just a different set of pros and cons.Ron is the MAN!!!!

Re: Bandmates
I prefer to just pound my bandmates into the dirt but I guess that is why I have been in and out of so many bands through the years. I take 0 **** and I don't compromise at all. It is basically my way or the the highway. That usually leads to either me quiting or my getting the boot due to "creative differences". I would suggest that you sit down with your long time bandmates and work it out. I messed up several really good bands with my pompous no compromise pick a fight attitude.

Re: Bandmates
Two years were on the road in the mid-west packed in a van doing 3-4 nights a week. I'm alot like you jg in the last year with no compromise at all. I will try talking to guys during the colts and pats game and patch the ship. Maybe its me being a jackass and I need to chill a bit.

Mark your territory and Pee on the others equipment!"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!
"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.

Re: Bandmates
Compromise. Settle on two or three songs that you might want to cover, then either record them(best) or play them live for a unbiased third party. See which songs your band does best and sounds best doing, then get as much input from outsiders that you trust as you can. Call over some musician friends to help you guys decide. Or play a few live and see which the crowd reacts to best.

Re: Bandmates
Sometimes guys just want to add a cover song just because they know how to play it already and thats a stupid reason. The songs should be chosen based on the style of music and sound that best suits your bands musical direction. I've heard some rediculous assed song choices from bandmates that are so far from what we were doing that I just refuse to play them. I made up a list of 40 80's metal songs that I thought would best cover the spectrum of the genre, (alot of which I've never played before, btw) and I wanted my bandmates to do the same and then we could compile a master list with all our choices. My drummer and guitarist wanted to do Sh*t like SRV and Skynard just because they knew 'em already! I would not play those songs unless we were a Classic rock & blues cover band which we are NOT!!! I would rather learn cool stuff from scratch than play sh*t just because I can.....that just bugs me about bandmates.
