I hardly ever get the whole weekend off, so I took this weekend, and we ran to Missouri to see some friends. Well my friends husband plays guitar so of course I took the RR5. Now, he's in his 60's, hates metal, but we could always jam on some original stuff. I don't play much country, even though I am a HUGE Johnny Cash fan, and like alot of the older country, I just don't (can't?) play it. So we get there, get settled in (it's a 5 1/2-6 hour drive from here) and bust out the guitars. He's never seen the RR5, so he was surprised, said it was beautiful etc...it was going so well. We jammed on some blues vamps and stuff, and were having fun. Then he says..can you play this(insert song name here)..I say no, but play a bit and I will follow along. Then he names off about 5 other songs that I know of..but don't know how to play. So we just fukk around a bit more, and I can tell something is bugging him. Then he asks me, do I plan on doing something with my music, or is it just going to be a hobby?. So I tell him I am trying to put a band together (got a singer) and see what happens. Then he gets ignorant. He says well I hope you get smart and play REAL music, not that **** you been showing me...and I should stop wasting my time with that kind of crap. So then I get stupid and start defending myself, telling him to basically kiss my ass, who is he to tell me what real music is?..Etc..it just goes downhill from here. So anyway, I get pissed off, put away my guitar and try to tell him that being so fukking closed minded is being stupid. He basically runs down metal until I just walk out of the house. Well, his wife and my husband tried to mediate, and we "made up" enough to go eat dinner and go hae some drinks (where the band played REAL music according to him)..so today we are getting ready to leave and I tell them to come see us, then I tell him, leave your damn guitar at home, and don't ask to play mine. So that's where that is at..
But why to people think that "their music" is best? It's ok to think that, but why belittle folks who don't agree. And I love a lot of different kinds of music, but if I am going to play music and do it for ME,..it's going to be METAL!!! Anyway...thanks for letting me bitch. [img]/images/graemlins/rant.gif[/img]
