Ace Freheley (I know.. he is super popular.. but not many "Guitarists" feel he is a good player) BOY!!! ARE THEY WRONG ABOUT THAT! He probably coined more rock/metal guitar phrases and influenced more guitar players than any other rock/metal guitarist in history.
Criss Oliva tops my list. Then I'd have to say Ty Tabor and Stevie Blaze.
I'd have to say that I disagree with Toru's assessment of the self-titled Whitesnake album. I thought the album was great!! I find it quite ironic that you say that album sucked, but the primary guitarist on it was the first guy you listed as underrated. (John Sykes) Adrian Vandenberg only played the solo on "Here I Go Again" from that album, so as far as I'm concerned, that album is no measure of AV's talent.
By the way, Wulfie, don't diss Brad (XXX), he's the man.
Ry Cooder ( best slide player I have ever heard)
Chuck Berry (without Chuck we probably wouldn't have had Hendrix)
Dick Dale (the original shredder)
Lindsey Buckinham (always overlooked on these list)
Brian May
Billy Gibbons

Tekky, the album Adrian played entirely is the Restless heart which came out in mid 90's.
That is the album I was talking about.
You got it wrong.
Of course the self titled album that John Sykes played kicks major ass.
OK, then I stand corrected. Somehow I was confused as to what you were referring to. After they released Slip of the Tongue, I lost interest in them. I wasn't aware that they even released anything after it other than a best of cd. Then I realize that it wasn't really even released in the States.
Jake E. Lee? In terms of Ozzys guitarist yes, Jake is underrated compared to Randy and Zakk. Most underrated guitarist no definately not. He was on several magazine covers in the mid 80s. He even had his own article in, I think it was guitar magazine during the early 90s. The Japanese must have thought he was a god, look at how many young guitar mags from Japan featuring Jake pop up on ebay.
I think the Japanese people mostly love Jake because he actually is half Japanese himself. I always thought he was Ozzy's best guitar player but didn't get enough recognition. Too bad he seems to have fallen off the planet now.
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.
Toe, I think it has nothing to do if he was half Japanese or not.
Ozzy was huge over there even before Jake joined.
Another example,Quiet Riot w/Randy Rhoads had 2 albums there before Randy became popular with Ozzy.
And look all the bands that go to Japan and play.
They love Hard Rock/Metal bands with cool guitarists and they still do until now.
And go back to Jake, He was SUPER REAL cool when he was with Ozzy.
Badlands was real great I actually like Badlands better than Ozzy w/Jake but majority of people recognize him when he was with Ozzy.

True.
The Ultimate Sin album I think is one of best Ozzy records ever. Without the commercial success of that album what would have ever happened to Oz.
