Jake E. Lee? In terms of Ozzys guitarist yes, Jake is underrated compared to Randy and Zakk. Most underrated guitarist no definately not. He was on several magazine covers in the mid 80s. He even had his own article in, I think it was guitar magazine during the early 90s. The Japanese must have thought he was a god, look at how many young guitar mags from Japan featuring Jake pop up on ebay.

Unlike "Ry Cooder ( best slide player I have ever heard)
Chuck Berry (without Chuck we probably wouldn't have had Hendrix)
Dick Dale (the original shredder)
Lindsey Buckinham (always overlooked on these list)
Brian May
Billy Gibbons" ?
This whole thread seems to be a list of people's favourites rather than of truly underated guitarists. A lot of the guitarists listed here have already attained legendary status, so could hardly be called "underated". Some may be less well known amongst the general public but are held in very high regard amongst guitarists, while others maybe dismissed by us metalheads but are household names to fans the rest of the world over.
And just about every guitarist mentioned in this thread has been discussed at some time on the JCF before, usually receiving praise from those into them, so it's not like this thread has brought any new or surprising names to the table. A lot of folks here have praised Buckinghams playing, and Roy Buchanan's, Gillis', Kotzen's, Vandenberg's, Stevens', Oliva's, etc.
I mean, really? How many covers have guys like Billy Gibbons, Ry Cooder, Brian May, Richie Blackmore, Dave Gilmour, Mark Knopfler, Nuno Bettencourt, Jake E Lee been on over the years? I couldn't consider any of these guys underated.
here's a few "forgotten" greats...neal schon, alex lifeson,
and rik emmett. as far as current underated guitarist kyle cook would get my vote...i know he's from a pop rock band but the guy has some chops when they let him go off.
Guitars... Rhoads RX10D Amp... Pioneer Effects... Boss ME-20
Doyle.. is that the guy who also was on tour with David Gilmour couple of years ago on his acoustic/electric set?
I have the DVD and he plays great!
and was in a band with Charlie sexton?
I saw them live they opened up for Gary Moore I think on Still got the Blues tour in early 90's.
