And yet the only way to permanently stop a killer (or in this case, a sh21tload of killers) from killing is to do what? Lock them in a Federal Penitentiary? No. Make them sit in the corner? No. Make them write an essay? No.
Let's see...how do you stop thousands of religious fanatics that kill on command?
I dunno, let's ask the man on the street, specifically, the man on the streets surrounding what used to be the World Trade Center. What would he say is the best way to stop thousands of homicidal/suicidal maniacs?
By killing them.
Killing is a neccessary evil. Would you let a rabid dog run free through the town just because killing is somehow wrong? What happens when he spreads rabies to the other animals? What happens when he attacks you or your child? Do you simply pity the dog and die while he lives on to infect and kill others?
Should John Wayne Gayce have been allowed to live free? What about Charles Manson and his bunch? What about Ted Bundy? What about Dahmer?
Should we strive to simply contain these people in prisons that are pushing maximum density already?
The point of view that ALL killing is wrong is - wrong! You cannot say that killing "the bad guys" is no different than the bad guys killing the good guys. The major difference, and the justification, lies in the reasoning behind the killing.
Killing someone for $20 in their wallet is not a valid reason to kill. Killing someone who has killed someone for a wallet containing $20 IS legitimized by the fact that doing so benefits society as a whole.
As for the complaints about the heated and insulting remarks that pop up in these threads - at least we're not sitting here going "Ho hum, whatever happens, happens". I for one DO care who wins the election, because it means the difference between giving the world free run of America vs giving the world the finger and saying "Don't like it? Fukk off!". It means the difference between turning America into the U.N.'s little b1tch and telling the U.N. that this is the U.S.A., not the U.N.'s b1tch to be pushed around and told just what to do by some Euro-Commie holdovers.

I think Newc and Bill said it well, each in their own way. As for Tim and others saying the hawks haven't served, the post before Tim's was LPC, a career Marine who's probably going to Iraq soon.War is horrible, and that story is especially sad. The fact remains, most Americans' views on war are distorted by the fact that we've been mostly immune to attacks on our homeland since the Civil War. No one has overrun our towns and killed civilians as they went, so we have lived in a vacuum. This causes people to have an unrealistic view of the human race, most of which doesn't share the enlightened view that war should be abolished. Most countries in the world that feel that way are those whoalways lose their wars. How many more 9/11s do we need before we realize that the Islamic terrorists want to kill us simply because we are not Muslims? Islam has grown by killing non-Muslims since its inception and the terrorists hate the West because Europeans stopped their drive for world empire in the 7th century and held on since then. Yes this is a war over 1,200 years old, just reheating now. They are NOT going to leave us alone if we pull out of there because they, the terrorists, make their living attacking us, and they suck supplies out of the local villagers on the excuse of needing support in the war against the infidel. That's us now, but if they ran out of Westerners they'd start splitting hairs on which Muslims were "true". Their lives depend on killing us, and we have no choice but to fight back. All they have is oil, and they were incapable of getting and selling it without Western technology. That's exploiting them? No it's not, it's bringing them into the technological world and making them rich. If a nation has internal strife, all other nations dealing with it have to pick a side to deal with. It's always been and will always be that way. The side we don't back is gonna get sh!tty about it and we have to slap 'em down if the faction we back can't do so.War sucks but it's human nature and we are the most enlightened superpower in history in that we don't just crush our enemies and keep them down. If you disagree, let another 4 or 5 9/11-type attacks occur and one of YOUR friends or family is killed, then you will understand. Until then, you're talking about something you have no comprehension of. The world is not a controlled environment like the USA is.Ron is the MAN!!!!Comment

My only point in commenting about whether people had served in the military (or any other risky public service job for that matter) was apparently missed. I clearly wasn't clear.
I think that before anyone says stuff like "sometimes people die for freedom", they need to reflect and ask themselves if it is something they are willing to die for themselves. IMO, if you yourself are not willing to die or send your loved ones off to die for the cause in question, then you should not be willing to send anyone. It is that simple.
So are you willing to die for what has been or might be accomplished in Iraq as a result of this war? If so, what specific thing makes it worth your life?I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.
