Lighten up, Francis.

While I agree to some extent that the salaries and excessive hero worship are a little skewed, there is room for pro sports in our (or anybody's) culture. You seem to be taking some stereotypes to an extreme. After all,it is just a game.

so then you shouldn't like successful musicians either...

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually there's a big difference in MY opinion. Music is an art, a means of self expression, it paints a picture that can sometimes last a lifetime, and it's all about sharing those feelings with the world. You find a song that you like and you listen to it over and over for years without ever growing tired of it. That's what a musician does. A musician provides something unique, personal, and thought provoking, and it is an extension of their own heart, soul, and life experiences that they choose to share with the rest of the world. There are many many great musicians out there who aren't making much money, but still continue to give. That's a labor of love my friends. They are the folks I'll give my money to.
Ball players? eh....any dumfuk with some muscles, practice, physical agility, and some pressure from Dad & the Coach can be good at playing ball. A bunch of grown men out there playing with a little ball.......now isn't that impressive! Hell, they don't even have to know how to spell their own name! They do have to memorize the rules and do what the coach says though...WoW! What a bunch of fukkin morons!
Oh, and if you want this to get deeper I'll start talking about the bunch of fukking stupid overweight couch potatoes that won't leave the house on Sunday afternoon or Monday evening because "a game is on". Why don't you get out there and play a game of catch with your kids??? Teach them that it's a fun game to play, but not to be taken too seriously. Then after you've mastered that, why don't you get off wellfare and get a job???? You better spend some time teaching your children how to have fun, learn to talk properly (or at least express themselves in an intelligent manner), and how to add and subtract numbers. Someday they're going to grow up and realize that they aren't the 1 in 1,000,000 that get a high paying job playing ball, so they'll get a job at McDonalds. They'll have you to thank! Don't ya feel good about that?
What's the average lifespan of a ball players career? 15 years max? Then what are they gonna do....make TV commercials selling dish soap?
That's because after a relatively short career they are nothing but has-beens.
Compare this to musicians. How many professional musicians can you name that are in their 50's, still popular, selling records, and still making a decent living? Now compare that number to the ex-ball players that anyone gives a crap about (except collecting cards!)
But what do I know, I'm just a raggedy assed mechanic.

try hitting a major league curveball or a 95 m.p.h. split fingered fastball. i'd say it takes some work and talent -lol

Re: whoever does not like baseball is

Wow, it's getting a little testy around here. Even though I don't watch baseball, I played baseball from 1st grade all the way through college. Not only baseball, but I played basketball, football, and even played on the golf and tennis teams. True, professional athletes are paid too much, but we're the fools that allow that to happen. But to say that it doesn't take training, skill, and dedication to excel in their sport, is just plain wrong.

I didn't learn how to throw a knuckleball, curveball, or split fingered fastball overnight. It took the same training and dedication it takes for a guitar player to change chords, play scales, etc. While we're sitting in our bedrooms 10 hours a day learning the Hookie Dookie Scale, some athlete is spending the same amount of time, both physically and mentally, so that he too can be a professional.

i agree completely german. these athletes are grossly overpaid. it's disgusting to see guys getting 15 million a year, and then some through endorsements, commercials, incentives, etc. but it does take some serious work and talent to make it to the show. i hope people know that i was just joshin' with my initial statement. i know lots of people find baseball about as much fun as sticking needles in ones own eye, but i dig it and i was just callin' people out for fun. anyway, yankees-redsox debacle starts tomorrow. it's gonna be awesome.

This will be a sweet series. Since I have a hatered towards New York, I'm gonna take the red sox in 6. The Braves will take it all tonight, then take St. Louis in 7.

Without Mariono for even 1 night, it's gonna be tough. BUT Schilling is hobbleing too. As a Braves fan, I'd like to see a Braves Yanks, series. I want 1 last try at beating them in October.

except when he plays the sox; that's the only AL team he has difficulty with. i'm not gonna grandstand or anything, but the sox do have a pitching edge and the season series this year, the yanks have history, and the ability to come back and haunt like a scorned ex. it's gonna be a hell of a week.

looks like the Braves are out... unless they can make a huge comeback in these last couple of innings.
