Re: the official yankees-sox series thread (f.p.o.)

bronson arroyo has been talking smack about how the yanks don't have anybody that can match schilling or pedro.
i hope they keep talking, and i hope the boston herald keeps printing, it makes for some great stuff to post up on the board in the yankee clubhouse for them to read.

            Tommy, here's one for you...

Curt Schilling on pitching against the Yankees: “I’m not sure I can think of any scenario more enjoyable than making 55,000 people from New York shut up.”

I'm sure that's hanging up in the clubhouse already.

Yea, I guess, but it would be nice to see Shilling get a Shelling in person.

Re: the official yankees-sox series thread (f.p.o.)

Yankee fans...you have just entered the 'no spin' zone.
So if we view the upcoming ALCS through the eyes of the media we would believe the following:

*The RS cannot wait to play the Yanks because their WS victory simply won't be as sweet unless they go through us first.

*Statisically the Yankees are underdogs (even the Las Vegas odds makers say so!)

*Curt Schilling is the RS most direct route to a series win.

*Yankee pitching is the most direct route to a series loss.

*RS have the edge because of Mo's recent family tragedy and its effect on Mo and the rest of the team.

So now let's take the spin off:

Let's go back to our last game against Pedro and the infamous post game press conference. We have delighted for several weeks now in the "my Daddies" quote, but I've always thought the more important admission from that night was the "I wish they would just (f'ing) go away. I don't want to have to see them in the postseason, etc., etc.". If that wasn't enough to make the hair on each RS front office head stand on end, then Johnny Damon backing up the statement the following day with "I wish we didn't have to see them in the post season either" certainly was.

I'm willing to bet that Theo had his finger on the last digit of his PR guy's phone number before Johnny even finished the sentence.

All the bluster and bravado swirling around the RS right now is the creation of some overworked PR spin doctors holed up somewhere in Beantown.

How else does 'We don't want to play the Yankees' becomes 'Go Yanks! We want to beat your butts on the way to the WS' screaming off the cover of the Boston Herald?

How else does the team who won the AL East become an underdog to the perennial 2nd place wild cards?

How else does the pitcher who CRIED because he couldn't hold off the Yankees become the ticket to success?

How else does the Yankee pitching rotation (who participated in our 100+ wins and AL East title) spell imminent doom?

How else would a team with a history of playing through tragedy (Thurman Munson and Paul O'Neill's Dad are recent examples) end up having their proven grace under pressure questioned?

The Francona/Schilling press conference is the perverbial icing on the cake. Francona...nice guy...bad manager who didn't give anything to the press but a big bag of vague double talk. The reporters even gave up on him.

Schilling? All of a sudden this well known pompous a*s...who once proudly pronounced aura and mystique as strippers in a club...is now the picture of humility giving props to the Yankees? He looked like he was choking on every word. When asked if this match up with the Yanks is what his club has wanted since spring training he replied, "It's more what the fans and the media wanted...not the team". That's a far cry from "Tell them we're coming and h*ll is coming with us".

The Yankees need no headlines, or tshirts, or Las Vegas odds, or clever sound bytes, or clubhouse antics.

The Yankees already have the one (and only) thing they need to communicate their status, their heart, their committment to excellence and their will to win...a pinstriped uniform.

It's worked for about 85 years and I don't expect that to change any time soon.

this is gonna be a pressure packed series everyone, enjoy it!!!

I've got problems with Yankee fans right about now. My wife and myself were out to dinner the other night when your atypical Yankee fan was rattling off her vast knowledge of her favorite team and how they have the best players and always win and blah blah blah blah blah. Did you know you have three closers? I didn't. I thought Mariano had that job locked. At any rate she went on how she wants to face the Sox so they can beat them because their fans are so uncivilized. I can't understand why she would say such a thing. All I did was piss on her leg. lol

We do have some ignorant people in our Yankee family but for the most part we all enjoy the rivalry and it wouldn't be complete without a Yankee-Red Sox showdown.

Off topic, but I once witnessed that in reality. Long story short, I went to visit a bud at his college many years ago. Two of his roomates loved to go at each other. Coming home smashed from bar-hopping one night, they started into each other in a parking lot. No blows, mind you. Just arguing like MF's.

Funniest thing I had ever seen... One dude keeps the argument going full tilt, right up in the other guy's face and all to distract him. All the while barking back and forth, he's unzipping the barn door and leaking over his bud's leg. Full bladder after a night of drinking, totally drains himself. That coordination and convincing took talent.

I laughed so hard, I nearly pissed my own pants.
