tommy, if i didn't know better, i'd say you sound like an old time sox fan! perhaps what happend was the the fabled curse of the bambino has merged with the mickey mantle's birthday mojo, and taken on montezuma's revenge-like properties for yankee fans? a curse mutation, if you will?

what's that? reverse the curse, you say? talk to me in 86 years.

If you follow the analysts' non-logic completely through, the Yanks would've never even been able to make an offer to the Big Unit. No $ or prospects to actually do it. Well, that's what the analysts would have you believe. But the truth is Johnson was ready to sign - begging to do it! - but the Diamondbacks wouldn't let him go. They got greedy, and just figured they'd get more out of trading him next year, anyway.

Well lesse .. if trying to get prospects (Which the Yankees have none) to better your team is greedy then what in the hell is a 190 million payroll to guarantee success (or try too)?

Funny part is ..radio had a stat today.. Yanks have never won the world series since their payroll topped 100 million

Nah. That's not greed. Greed is that Arizona could've gotten umpteen million $ and/or some prospects (...of which there are still some). And, instead, they decided to gamble that they'd get umpteen million $ + more and have the pleasure of giving the screw to the hated Yanks pitching staff.

But he'll probably blow out his arm in spring training, so they'll ultimately get squat.
