Re: burglary

See, your roommate is lucky Harrald. What if the guy had been prepared to eliminate any witmesses to his crime. Yes, people have been killed over $20 worth of stuff. Be watchful and urge your roommates to carry some kind of weapon, because the guy may well come back since nobody harmed him. A good ass-whipping and the guy would probably never come around again. Compassion is one thing but survival is another, and he invaded your space. Now had he stolen a guitar you'd be much angrier than you are, admit it! And your door, if no one was home, could probably be kicked in easily, lock or no lock. Had he had more time he'd have likely gotten around to it, as the door with big lock signifies treasure to the thief.

Anyway, I'm glad you and your friend are okay and nothing major was lost - this time.

          Re: burglary

hmm, I will take a better look around if I go out at night. the difference with the US is I think the way criminals work here. Here the low level criminals don't have weapons other than pocketknives. the reason is simple: as a criminal you are not better off with a gun, other criminals don't have one (unless in the organized or drug business) and if you are cought with one or use one, you will be punished quite severe, especially if someone gets harmed. besides that it is better to run than to shoot; chances you will survive are way bigger, because the cops don't draw guns here unless threatened (it is formally forbidden to use it otherwise) and they are usually not really trained marksman, so they will shoot you in the torso instead of arms or legs (or they will aim for the legs, but hit the torso, these guys here have no fukking idea how to use a gun)

I will watch out, so will my friend. thanks for the concearns!!!

            Re: burglary

Glad it wasn't worse, Harrald. The older I get (and the more kids there are running around here) the more stuff like that freaks me out.

So ANYWAY, glad he couldn't get into your room, and glad he didn't have a gun/knife/brick, and glad he didn't take a dump on the carpet. I HATE it when that happens!

              Re: burglary

Someone once broke into my car to steal my crappy potable CD player, and my crappy JC Penney winter coat, and my crappy gym bag that had a few mags in it. The only things of value he got were my George Lynch sig. licks book, and two other guitar repair books. He got my checkbook too, but someone found that in the road and called me to pick it up.

I work with Juvenile delinquents and any time i get one who i a thief, I ask them how much whatever they stole was worth-then I ask them if they would pay that much to be let out of detention or boot camp and they always reply "YES!" Then I ask them why they bother giving up so much for so little. They never know what to say. The point is, people are becoming more and more disrespectful toward each other in order to satisfy some momentary impulse. Kids aren't learning to work for their crap either because they watch mom and dad collect welfare and smoke crack all day, or mommy and daddy are so rich they are given everything, and expect other to give things to them, like it or not. Sorry to rant....
