Origami Boxes

This may be a weird request... perhaps one of you can help me here.
My daughter is getting into the art of origami and years ago I used to know how to make this wicked cool origami box, and I want to show her how to make it.
It has a top and a bottom and they fit together. Man, I used to make them for gift boxes!
Unfortunately I don't have any so I can't remember how to make them! [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]
I don't remember there being any cutting involved and you use two square pieces of paper- I think.
I've looked for instructions on the web and in the local library, and though I've found some neat ones- it isn't the one I used to make.

So... any origami artists in here that can give me some direction? Pretty please? [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Toru- those links are awesome! The first one- those are the boxes! They looked just like that. Wish my Japanese girlfriend was here, she could read it to me. Those diagrams help though, I'll see if I can figure it out.

I wanted to impress my kids (it doesn't take much, thankfully) so I made them some of those balloon boxes. Took me forever to remember how to make 'em. But when the paper is all folded you blow into the hole (SHUT UP!) and voila!! Instant balloon. Sooooo totally cool. Especially in metallic black and purple dinosaur wrapping paper. I had this wicked book with instructions on how to make origami mythical beasts... including dragons, Em... oooooooooooooooh. I gotta know how to make a dragon- man.. that is just COOL!
Paper airplanes are awesome, I'm always making those. We have flying contests.

These paper balloons are so fun, why did I ever stop making them? I want to find a really big piece of gnarly looking paper and make a giant lantern. I can hang it from my vaulted ceilings. [img]/images/graemlins/headbang.gif[/img]
I'd have to use an air compressor to fill it up! Yes! I'm always looking for excuses to play with the air compressor. [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

I will get my brother to scan in all the dragon ones when he has a free moment. [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] And maybe a gargoyle if there's one too. [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] I'll also scan in the book's preface which includes instructions for the different kinds of folds because there are some truly weird-looking impossible-sounding folding styles that would be made easier with the pictures included. [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

I suggest using a big piece of gnarly looking paper to make the dragons too. Two reasons. One is that there are a LOT of intricate folds that would be easier with large paper so that the relative thickness is decreased, facilitating ease of folding. Use a newspaper or grocery flyer. [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] The other reason is obvious... so you can proudly display them, maybe fighting or mating with each other in your living room. [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] They'd be awesome conversation pieces. [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

OR!!! Better yet. Make a lantern out of a hollowed-out origami dragon, fill it up using the air compressor, and the light will come out of the mouth like fire, or glows out the eyes. [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/headbang.gif[/img]

I have huge, killer ceilings in my house, I could do some demon-esque dragon right in the entryway. Talk about a welcome! I'd have to find some nice paper- or paint some myself.
Yeah, good idea to use really big paper. Thin, too.

I made a Origasmi box once ...yep I put my wife in a empty refrigerator box and cut a hole in it..
