Sammy is stable and competent, but that's all.

EVH + DLR = MAGIC. It's tragic that they don't get along, but not surprising. They're both volatile, hyper-creative artists. We're lucky to have the music they created while together.

I just bought a ticket to see DLR in the Twin Cities on Nov. 7. I can't wait! I'll post a review afterwards.

Sammy is definitely a better singer but Dave's got style and flair that Sammy just can't touch.

the only way the Ed would work with Roth again is for the money. I agree with drs Roth is a nutcase but so is Ed. This tour I don't beleive is as much about money as some think. If it was about money it would be the original van halen. Wait another 2 years to spend your money when Ed and Roth both need it. [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Anything is possible. We did atleast get 2 more songs with Roth, and you could take it as there IS a possibility of a reunion, or you could take it as they couldn't even put it back together long enough to get on the road and tour.

I know casino band guitarists who'deat Ed for breakfast on his best day. Speaking of smoking Ed, Dave's guitarists have all consistently smoked Ed at his own game. Sure he did innovate the style, but is not what he was 20 years ago. He's killing himself with alcohol and tobacco and is too fukkin' STUPID to STOP. You can cheer while he kills himself if you want; not me.Dave will outlive Ed and does Van Halen better than Van Halen does these days. That's not on Sammy, it's on Ed.Though Sammy is a better singer, he doesn't have the charisma that Dave has. This made Ed jealous because he doesn't have Dave's charisma either, so he got an ordinary singer that wouldn't upstage him. Period. With Cherone he had someone completely submissive and the result was pathetic. Any DLR solo album smokes VH3 into the ground, any objective listener can tell you that.

I don't think EVH changed guitar playing more than anyone else. Granted, he DID change guitar playing, and for the better, but I think Jimi had a greater impact on guitar playing than EVH.

I never purchased a single Van Halen album after Dave was gone. To me the magic was just gone after that. Sammy is a great vocalist but to me he doesn't mix well with Eds guitar style. I have all of Sammys old "pre Van Halen" albums and I still enjoy them. As far as Dave goes, hell, he's one of the best vocalists/showmen I've ever seen in my life. His style just went hand in hand with Eds. It's too bad we may never experience that magic again.

Oh, and more on Lerx's statement: Anyone here heard Daves "Skyscraper" album?? It blew away anything VH has produced since the split. (just my opinion)

I think the whole thing is really sad. Ed sounds like a raving loon in any recent interview I've seen. There was definitely some great chemistry in the original band, but truth be told, it started falling apart after Fair Warning. Diver Down and 1984 seemed more like Roth's vision--any of the dark edges in the band disappeared after FW, and that's what made VH interesting to me.
