I was in a street punk band for a while and the other guitarist had a crazy mohawk. I am pretty sure he just used a lot of hairspray and a hairdryer. I don't know how to post pictures on this new board, but you can see pictures at www.deadbeatbetties.com.

Dippity do and THEN aqua net.
Get your hair all nice and colored and 'hawked, and the trick is to keep your head upside down until its dry.
You can use a hairdryer to speed up the process.

In the movie "Something about Mary" Camron Diaz use a special gel in her hair that may do the trick.
