In most parts of the country a $250,000 house is a nice damn house; in L.A. it's a 600 sq. ft. shack in Compton or a tract house in Moreno Valley 80 miles east of L.A. in the desert. Of course the wage scale is higher too, but not nearly as much as the housing is. For most working-class Angelenos home ownership is either out of reach, involveshours of daily commuting, or living in a gang warzone.L.A. is cool in many ways, but that aspect of it sucks pretty badly.

That's messed up Em! If you pack a lunch for your little one then why the hell should they have the right to tell them what they can or cant eat??? I would be taking a trip down there right away! I wouldn't sit still for this kind of thing! It's frikkin Halloween candy, the day after Halloween!!! WTF????? I won't let anybody tell my kid he or she can't have a peice of candy at lunch that I or my wife put there!!!
Okay, good. So its not just me. Sometimes I think I missed the boat with all the normal people on it. They all sailed away and I somehow missed the memo.
There is a reason for all this, but its lame if ya ask me. Its total bullsh!t and has everything to do with there being a weight problem with a lot of the kids.
Most of the kids get free meals at this school and for them it could very well be the ONLY nutritious meal they even get, if they get any meals at home.
I have never lived in a place like this- its very confusing. I can understand helping children- but it gets fukked up. Just because a certain group of kids need the extra nutrition and whatnot, not all the children need to be lumped into the same size shoe box.
God.. I've tried being involved with the system and making my voice heard, I'm not the only one. But I'll tell ya, it's so INSANE that all I want to do is murder people. So it's better that I rant at you guys. Seriously, it drives me mad.

Come to NC. The school system here is WAY better than the piece of SH!T we left behind in the Seattle area. Kids get to be kids but get a better education and have a lot more common sense.

Yes, Tim is right about the Seattle area. It is so P.C.. They will not even let kids wear hats during school. What I can't stand is the guys wear their pants half way down their asses, but they get away with it as long as their shirts cover it. I say that they should not allow inseams down to the knees. I guess I'm getting old. By the way Tim, it is raining today.

Good things can happen out there Em, from good people - I know a few. I know more in East Texas, where I'm from. And am blessed to know good folks in Houston, Austin, and San Antonio.

Funny, I just got home- met some folk tonight that are moving to Austin. That makes several people now that I've met out here moving to Austin. Hmmm...
Don't get me wrong, I love Texas. I visited my buddies in Dallas before I moved out here (which wasn't by choice, btw) and I always loved coming out here. San Antonio too.
Interesting about this state- a treaty was signed to join the Union. I suppose Texas could break the treaty and secede (Ron, how do you spell that??)... who cares.
I didn't know that the Texas state flag can fly at the same height as the US flag- and the kids all say a pledge to the Texas flag in addition to the Pledege of Allegiance.
Cool state.
