I am looking to buy a digital camera for my girlfriend for christmas. I am looking to spend around 300 dollars, and I have no idea where to start. She liked some of the sony cameras. Can anyone help me out? Thanks
Zach

I have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P72. It's pretty cool and cheap. The pictures are really clear and if you have a memory card big enough you can record short movies. Very handy piece of equipment

another question I had was where is the best place to get one? Best Buy seems pretty expensive. I was looking on amazon and they seem to have some pretty good prices...

The sony cameras are good, I have a Sony DSCP9 4mp's... make sure you get one with (optical) zoom! Digital zoom and Smart zoom don't mean anything! I would also recommend getting a camera with Lithium Ion Battery...
And massive amounts of megapixels means jack all if you don't have decent optical zoom. Next to megapixel amount, optical zoom is the next big price-determining factor in a digital camera. Something with 3.2MP and 3x optical zoom is better than a camera with 5.0MP and no optical zoom. I've always regarded anything more than a measly one megapixel is overkill anyways because I mostly use my camera for web-sized photos (640x480, you know, the "standard" size where multiplying 640 by 480 is 1/3rd of a million pixels anyways) and unlimited video recording.
But the present is useless unless she has a compatible memory card/stick to go with it. So pick up one of those too unless you know someone else is going to get her a memory card/stick that's compatible with her camera. Talk to her family/friends to coordinate on the gifts.
