There is an interview with Dave on Askmen.com, where he states that the album was a contractual obligation, and talks about problems with the rest of the guys, his hatred of Kirk H. etc.

This is a Dave solo album, put out because he has to, and it sounds like it. The album is tired and stale sounding.
