  • Went out to protest yesterday

Yesterday I went to a protest in Hollywood. I marched alongside several thousand other people from all walks of life that felt the same way I did. When we got to the recruiting station, a line of police were there to greet us. A young woman got on the hood of a car and started yelling at them. The police grabbed her by the leg and pulled her so she fell, then as they tried to pull her behind their lines to arrest her, the crowd pulled back. In the end the police got her. Her mother was there. Her mother started crying and the police tried to grab her and arrest her too. Then the mother fainted and dropped to the ground. The police did nothing but stand there and watch. Seeing that the police were no help, I along with a handful of other people grabbed the woman and we ended up having to carry her away from the crowd. We stopped in the middle of the parking lot and there was an off-duty ER doctor in the crowd that was attending to her. Then we picked her up and tried to take her to the police where we assumed there would be paramedics as well. They had blocked off the area and were moving in with riot gear. As we carried the woman towards the exit, a line of police with shields, clubs and tear gas was in the way. I tried to get through carrying the woman, but the police started jabbing me with their batons. I guess they thought I was going to beat them with a 50 year old. Thank God that I was busy carrying that woman, because had my hands been free I would have surely done something to get myself arrested.

Eventually we walked around the entire parking lot, carrying an unconsious woman through the crowd, who had by this time lost bladder control. I stayed with her behind the stage until the Fire Department showed up about five minutes later.

There is no mention that there was even a gathering on the news today.

      "Waddya got?"
      Sorry...couldn't stop myself...

I think Ace was protesting the fact that the police aren't there to see through double standards.

I'm not going to mention what I was protesting, because then it turns into a political thread and gets pulled.

Damn Ace, I commend you for your tenacity with the woman. No telling what would have happened had you left her there.

I learned in the USMC that you don't leave a fallen person behind. I guess the LAPD doesn't have that code. With all the riot gear, and the helicopters overhead, I felt like I was back in the infantry again.

Re: Went out to protest yesterday

The Constitution of The United States allows for "PEACEFUL" protests. Standing on the hood of a car and shouting is not peaceful.

Was the car a Police Car by any chance?
                    Was it her car?
If it wasn't her car, then it's trespassing on private property.

There are proper channels available to voice a majority opinion and effect change, and marching in protest and shouting is not a valid channel - it's usually used by groups that do not have the majority voice to threaten or force their views on the majority, thus resulting in a reversal of documented majority opinion.
For reference, see the consistent lowering of the quality of taxpayer-funded public schools, as well as the currrent discussions of vouchers which would give a free ride to those who cannot afford private schooling.

"The squeaky wheel gets the grease", and it's usually coming out of the pockets of those who work for what they get.

                    That's not a political statement - that's a statistical fact.

Actually Newc the "right of the people peaceably to assemble" does cover marching and shouting. I'd still have shot the bitch off the hood of the car though.

Re: Went out to protest yesterday

Police are supposed to serve and protect. Obviously this woman needed help and they did jack. THe police got the woman on the car...this was an elderly woman (yes 50 years old is elderly, sorry to bare the bad news) she wasn't the one jumping up and down on some poor sap's car. She was just a lady who needed help and Ace got to carry the burden.

pigs just like you, selfish pricks. Is it beyond you to be able to read beyond "she stood up on a car and yelled" ?

"Good for the police. If it'd been my car I'd have shot her off the hood. " Real smart...you sound like a true american hero.

Ace tells an exciting story and it gets retorts about trespassing when instead Ace should be commended for most likely savign that womans life.

Drip - Find me a law that allows this woman's daughter to damage private property. Go ahead, find one. If her mom couldn't handle a little action (that's LIKELY when radicals take to the streets) she should have stayed home. It's her own fault: 1) for raising a pinhead daughter; 2) for going along; and 3) for being unable to handle the situation she voluntarily put herself in. I have no sympathy for her at all.
