Re: Went out to protest yesterday

[ QUOTE ]
Drip - Find me a law that allows this woman's daughter to damage private property. Go ahead, find one. If her mom couldn't handle a little action (that's LIKELY when radicals take to the streets) she should have stayed home. It's her own fault: 1) for raising a pinhead daughter; 2) for going along; and 3) for being unable to handle the situation she voluntarily put herself in. I have no sympathy for her at all.

Welcome to LA where we treat you like a "King".

Ace you did the right thing.

I have a gut feeling things in the US will get much worse in the next say 3-4 years. Since NO ONE knows what was be protested, some of you may even have agreed the protesters. I wonder what the school of thiught would be then?

Re: Went out to protest yesterday

Ace absolutely did the right thing. But if this woman is unable to control herself she had no business putting herself in a dangerous situation, none at all. I've lived in LA and it takes more than a little hostility to get the cops there to break out the tear gas and go at it en masse. If the situation was that serious, fragile people had no business being there. To the extent anyone's to blame it's this woman's daughter for being and idiot and not warning her fragile mother to stay home.

Re: Went out to protest yesterday

I never said that the woman standing on the hood of the car shouldn't be arrested. I thought she should be. And no, it wasn't a police car. But I also think that the police have a duty to help people in need, especially when they are right at their feet in danger of being trampled. Instead the police did nothing but refuse us passage with a person in distress. And this had nothing to do with public schools. And as a matter of fact, majority opinion of this country, as polled, supported us protestors. Thank you once again Newc for your negativity.

I may have agreed with the protesters, however, history has shown us again and again that getting large mobs of highly agataited people together and all whipped up solves absolutely jackshit.

BTW, the police are in no way indebted to protect morons from themselves.

I should also say that the police did nothing to incite a riot, they have been very good at handling public protests from my experience. My only complaint was that they did nothing to help this woman in need, and instead just shoved us away with batons.

<font color="yellow">Ace....you did the right thing without a doubt, but honestly, you are a former Marine 0300 and you understand the police's position during this riot. When **** is going on around you and the possibility of injury is present, let's face it, you're mind isn't totally "in the game" it is thinking about survival and watching your buddies backs.

The cop reacted, right or wrong, but he reacted to his training.

Re: Went out to protest yesterday

It wasn't a "he" it was a "they". There was not one cop out there standing by himself. I've been through riot training in the USMC. They didn't need to break their lines or risk danger to themselves at all to pull this woman to saftey where she could be treated. I'm sure you've heard the saying "situation dictates". Well, being a firsthand observer to what happened, I would say that was one wrong decision the police made. I also understand that they are human and they need to do a job. But we weren't there to protest the police. Had they shown some compassion and treated the woman, that would have diffused the situation. Instead by refusing her treatment the crowd got more upset with the way the police acted and the situtation had the possibility of escalating. Had I been commander of that operation, I would have handled things differently. In the end those are my only complaints about the police. They never tear-gassed us or anything like that. I think that about 95% of the time the LAPD does the right thing.

If you were protesting what I think you were I don't get what you were protesting. 51% to 48% is a fair game and a clear winner. 59,651,290 to 56,158,908 shows a clear winner by 3,492,382. Both parties played the same game and the same rules. Your team didn't play smart or they could have won, they should have won but they had no strategy. Of course if you were protesting something totally different then my apologies for jumping to conclusions

We weren't protesting the election. That has already come and gone. America elected Bush. I agree with the Kerry team having no strategy, but that's not MY team. Anyways...

I have the same feeling, but suspect it won't take quite that long. I give it two years or so.

The election's come and gone. I've accepted the will of the people, as it should be. I was never "pro-Kerry" so much as "anti-Bush", anyway. I also suspect that within two year's time, many of those same people who voted in the majority will be serously second-guessing that decision. I do hope I'm wrong about that, though.
