Re: Went out to protest yesterday

[ QUOTE ]
ok I may have gone a little overboard with the selfish pigs bit. but you people really have a misconstrued look on things. Since when is property more important than someone's well-being?

not a question that needs explaining. Because your answer will probably not make any sense to me. You people never do. It's obvious to me that the majority of the people here have a strange twisted view of the world that doesn't include their fellow man, it's definately all about "me me me" here.

When I see somebody who's down and out I do my best to help them out.

From what I read on this forum most everyone would rather just step on their face and tell them to get off your lawn.

Just different views and beliefs. I'm not aggravated in any way really.

[/ QUOTE ]

You know, I don't know anyone on this board at all, but I would be willing to bet that everyone here would help out a fellow in need if they could.
I haven't been here that long, but long enough to know that the JCFers are cool people that not only care about guitars, but their families and friends.
I read evidence of this in posts all over this place.
Interesting you suggest the folks here would step on people's faces when it seems to me that is what you are doing.
Step off already.
I'm not aggravated or anything. Just so's ya know. Bwahahahaha!!!

the only time i'd step on someone's face is when I think it would make an improvement.

Hey DRIP, maybe this will help.

Say you just got done with a gig, and someone comes over and kicks your guitar off its stand and cracks the neck because he didnt like your song selection.Did he have the right to not like your music?-yes.Did he have the right to damage your property becaue of it?-hell no.say he fell over and hurt himself, would you suddenly forget he broke your guitar and make sure he is alright, or would you make sure he is really hurt?
Bottom line"the daughter had the right to be there, she didnt have the right to jump on someone else's car because she was mad.Take off your rose colored glasses, buckle up because life is a bumpy ride.

Actually it would be more like, he kicked your guitar because he didn't like the song that the band the night before played....

Re: Went out to protest yesterday

I get what your saying....and no..I probably wouldn't go after a dude just because he kicked my guitar...chances are he would do that just to get me to try and start some **** anyway.

again with the girl on teh car...yes she deserved to be arrested. The elderly lady is my focal point here folks, fuggin eh. I could not give two craps about some stupid chick doing lord of the dance on some guy's car hood.

Teh fact remains another lady fainted in the middle of a large demonstration and the police failed to take initiative and help out.

2 different events took place...and you guys make the old lady vicariously responsible for the damage of the car because she gave birth to the stupid girl. Sorry, doesnt' work that way.

Re: Went out to protest yesterday

I've never seen any problems solved with a public protest. Usually, the acts of the protesters are far more uncivil than what they're protesting against. The police are there doing their job. To quote Chuck: "the police are in no way indebted to protect morons from themselves". They are there to protect the public from the morons. Period.

that's still no excuse to ignore someone who needs medical attention.

I'd make sure he was really hurt by beating him with the rest of my guitar that HE broke in the first place !

Re: Went out to protest yesterday

We have the right to peaceful assembly and protest, and it's regrettable that the older lady had trouble getting medical attention.
I would say the organizers of the protest wer the ones who should have made arrangements for medical personnel to be available, not the responsibility of the police. If they had no place to take her or put her, what purpose in bringing her behind their lines?

I've also seen mass protests at the Federal Building at Wilshire and Sepulveda, and the protestors were a menace to passing traffic,
blocking cars and harassing passersby, preventing ambulances from getting through with patients to nearby hospitals. That side of it protesters like to write off as collateral damage and not acknowledge it.

Peaceful protest is constitutionally guaranteed; when protesters start damaging property, it becomes a riot to one extent or another and the police, or troops, would have to follow different rules of engagement.

Drip, sorry, but I can't buy that if some guy kicked your guitar and broke the neck that you wouldn't jump on him and thump him. Maybe you don't know that of yourself, but I have faith in you!

Re: Went out to protest yesterday

Interesting thread here... First and foremost, Ace, I think you also did the right thing, but you have to understand where the cops are coming from as well. Things aren't always what they seem on the outside. Actually, they rarely are in these types of cases.

Maybe it's time for some folks to take a reality check? When you see things "through some rosey colored glasses" and others, the majority, if not all disagree, well what conclusion can you draw from it?

I think the key word(s) in the initial post is "recruiting station" Perhaps we're protesting the military's recruitment practices? Just a guess, but I'm usually fairly good at "reading between the lines" But I've certainly been wrong before.

Anyway, I agree with the majority here, although I've never seen a protest that was out of hand personally, first hand.

Anytime there's a large number of folks together protesting, or not, the police are there protecting the rights of the people as well as the rights of the folks who aren't there, doing whatever it takes to keep the peace, the police can't let their guard down for even a second. If one cop goes out into a hostile crowd because someone fainted, or not, that's putting an officer in harm's way where anything can happen, and that's certainly not going to happen, not in LA anyway. Maybe in farmtown USA where they don't have a track record for violent protesting, but not in LA, I imagine they look at things a bit differently out there.

I dunno...
