While vacationing in SoCal with my inlaws we were locked in Disneyland's campground for several days while the Rodney King riots took place. Rarely does a protest turn into a full blown anarchy. Sadly LA has experienced a couple of riots that got completely out of hand. The above mentioned Rodney King riot and don't forget the Watts riot. The LAPD is going to be fairly callous in the way they handle any "peaceful protest". With LA's history the police are probably going to err on the side of caution. I'm sure there were cops who wanted to help the fainted lady, but they were most likely instructed to hold their positions.
Anyhoo enough of this.........Can't we just all get along
No, obviously we CAN'T all just get along. I WILL NOT be placated. I don't give a sh!t if John Kerry says "let's put this all behind us and move on". I WILL NOT "Support our President". I will not just shut up and watch as the world burns. The election was a farce. John Kerry was a lie. He was never meant to win. Both candidates were corporate wh0res and liars. I will not fall back in line, or move towards the center. I sit out here on the left wing, because if someone doesn't this plane is gonna veer out of control and crash. The so-called "Democratic Leaders" are all falling back in line goose-stepping their way into the Capitol Building to the beat of the corporate drums.
And to those of you who say that taking to the streets makes no difference, from when Ghandi pushed the English out of India to the Civil Rights movement of the 1960's, history has proved that the people CAN make a difference.

Tell that to the people in Watts whose homes were burned to the ground, tell that to Reginald Denny the trucker who was almost beaten to death. He still talks with a slur. Yeah people taking to the streets does make a difference. It goes both ways.
I agree with Ace and MudKicker. With ACE 100% but it is too hard to control crowds now too many poeple protest just to cause shiz nowadays... Man I just think of the Chicago Bulls Championships... People will just jump on anything to commit crime... Which is a loss because that is not the intention of the core but the fringe guys find a way to use the protests for evil IMO

You guys have got to understand that the riots here in L.A. were not a political statment. They were revenge. The riots happen when violent people gather together and get pissed. There is a whole different mentality between protests and riots. Riots have no leaders. Protests are staged, organized, have leaders and speakers and police approval. The police let the crowd stay another 2 hours after they pushed everyone away from the building. They arrest several hundred people every year on the streets of Pasadena on New Years Eve. Slayer shows are twice as violent as protests. There is a distinct difference between protesting and rioting.
We're not a bunch of gangsters with guns running loose in the street. We're tax-paying upstanding citizens who are excersizing our Constitutional right to assemble. There were doctors, journalists, mothers, punk rockers, students, children. There was no threat of serious violence.
I spent four years carrying a rifle in the USMC Infantry because I believed that freedom is worth dying for. Like the Freedom to protest. I have the word "FREEDOM" tattooed across my belly. If you don't approve of our message, that's fine with me, but I reserve the right to excersize my freedoms in this country I defended.

That's precisely why this country will never be united and do what's good for all...
Ace... Never did I say everyone was a thug in LA or infere that but it isn't LA it is any town. The problem is that when a group gathers the people looking for trouble join in even though the core groups motives are pure. Do you think the intention of most celbrating the Bulls victories were for a young girl to get shot in a driveby "celebration" Or overturning a cab and ripping it to shreds? No but the bad elements take their oppurtunity whenever they feel they can

Once again, there is a BIG difference between a sports crowd and a group of protestors. Here in L.A., home of the Lakers, home of the Trojans, and former home of the Raiders, I've seen my fair share of rowdy sports fans. However, unlike protestors, sports fans are not an organized, legitimate group. They have no leaders and no agenda. They are a large group of drunks riled up by the excitement of their team's victory/defeat. There is a world of difference, I can tell you from being in both kinds of groups. And Ozzfest is just as bad here as any sports event.

But that's what the major hang up is. What's good for the goose isn't always what's good for the gander.
My problem is that now I'm faced with four years of him trying to force his religious agenda/morality down my throat. His ideas of morality are not the same as mine just as mine are not the same as some others on this board or even in my own family. Sure, there's come commonality, but there are also some major disconnects. This is why we can't all agree on things. We're individuals.
Ace I probably wouldn't agree with your stance on whatever you were protesting and I don't agree with the bright lines you're drawing between protesters, mobs, riots, sports fans, and concert goers but I completely support your right to take to the streets and voice your opinion. Further, unlike some who've commented, I feel that those who take the time to do so serve a very valuable purpose in our nation. Protest has a long and storied history in our nation: anyone remember an event that's referred to as the "Boston Tea Party" and where that eventually led?
Anyway, many thanks Ace for your service to our nation as part of the USMC, doing the righ thing in helping the woman who was overwhelmed at your protest, and for making your voice heard.
Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabis, ad caput tuum saxum immane mittam!
We are all about different opinions and beliefs, that is one of the things that makes this country great.
What doesn't make this country great is people acting like children who lost a game and are sore losers. You don't have to agree with the President, you don't have to like him but at least give him some due respect instead of the "I quit and taking my ball home" routine. He won the game fair and squre, they both played by the same rules.
