Re: stryper most underrated band in the 80s

In the genre of most under rated christian 80's metal.
My vote would defintaly have to go for Whitecross.
Rex Carroll was a great shredder.

Also, anyone ever heard of Jeff Scheetz?
He was pretty dang good too.
instrumental player in the vain of Vai/Satch.

Faster Pussycat Released their first album in like the 1st week of Jan. 86, way before all the Poser bands

I think Poison released theirs in early Jan also. Your release date does not give you a poser free pass. Faster just plain sucked. They were much to Vain in Their House of Pain whie getting Tattoos.
Under rated of the 80s Steeler, RacerX, Cacophony. The only place I ever remember seeing anything about them was in the Mike varney and Sharpnel records presents adds in GFTPM.
Others Keel, LA Guns, Hurricane. Lets not forget our friends to the north Aldo Nova, Honeymoon suite. Just kidding about honeymoon suite.
As for Stryper the bumble bee outfits gave me a head ache as well as Sweets voice. So I couldn't watch them or listen to them. I liked the songs up until Sweet started to sing.

La Guns didn't release their 1st album till 87. I put Faster Pussycat and La Guns in the same catergory.
Go listen to

Bottle in Front of me
Tattoo
Please dear
Non Stop to Nowhere

Tracii is one of my All time favorites though

Yep, Stryper was one of the best 80's band. I like their songs, but the guitar playing of the Sweet and Fox duo, I think was so good (and still put to now). Michael Sweet have a great musical talent.

They were a great band but not any better than another underrated band IMHO. EUROPE

Re: stryper most underrated band in the 80s

Well, um, hair metal was not exactly my thing (ok I fuckin' hated the hell out of it...) but anyway, the Oz guy was a good player, they wrote decent songs and whatnot. I'm sure they were all around decent players.

But his voice...I don't understand. He has the most er, unmasculine voice imaginable, kind of disturbing actually. He sounded like freakin' Shaun Cassidy a)on helium and b) on estrogen. It just ain't right.

How could you possibly like that? There were other hair metal guys who at least sounded like men (Sebastian Bach, Axl, Jani Lane, Kip Winger etc. etc.), and of course lots of good guitarists and so on. Soldiers Under Command I loved that song, it was amazing, but his voice, I just can't get past it. Wretched.

Come to think of it I wouldn't say they were underrated. They were not in the same league as Van Halen, Motley Crue, GnR, Skid Row, Bon Jovi etc. I'd say they were followers, not leaders, as far as that type of metal goes.

I once shared a joint with Robert Sweet in the parking lot of the club they were playing. My band opned.

That's it. That's all I can add to this otherwise interesting thread.
