Re: any JCF martial artists here?

FWIW....At my local bar, I have used Screw tu tang many times to get me out of trouble. works like a charm!!!

that art is actaully close to krima sum yung ho. Those arts are all ancient arts originating from the same area called Sum yung Gy fuk yung tang. My Cince, Master Wang, he knows the origins of all the arts and has studied them all, exept for one called: Suk Sum Young Gy. He advised all to avoid that particular one.

He says those arts are like instincts, you are born with them.
WHen not practicing those art with opponents, I always refer back to the solitude of the art of Pul Mi Wang, Its kinda like fighting yourself. Very challenging at times.

Did eleven years of Taekwon-Do between the ages of 7 and 18, attaining and stopping at the rank of third degree black belt. It was okay. I mainly trained to keep in shape, and that it did. I wasn't the best by any stretch of the means, but I was a charismatic leader who taught students well, particularly young kids and teenagers who could relate to me.

I could NOT kick any of your asses here. Let's put it that way. But I did train some of the best young students I've ever seen and what matters is that they think of me as a major influence in their lives and have gained the confidence and discipline to succeed in their lives. That alone made my Taekwon-Do life worth it.

BFM, I have never threatened anyone on this forum. It is not a situtation of me thinking less of a person. It is just a matter of me explaining soem truths to the myths of fighting....comparing what people see on TV and what happens in real life. I have no bad wishes against sworn_enemy......I truly wish him the best. I just feel that people think once they take martial arts ( such as I have and used to be guilty of), it gets a little over dramatized as to what martial arts really are.

Example: I was taught in 2 different styles by the same Dojo ( Don Madden ). His lead student has won incountable numbers of tournaments and looks like flowing water in his movements ( obviously from years of hard work and dedication ). This guy walks into my local bar, picks a fight with one of these guys as I have said before are just naturally mean and absorb pain like a sponge. When the fight insued, he realized all this training has done him no good. NONE. In about 15 seconds, there lay a man with years and years of training. No referees to help. No director to say "cut". That was the last day I stepped into a dojo and made REALLY good friends with that mean SOB.

Lou,

I absolutely agree with what you are saying. My whole point is just that you shouldn't lump everything together as junk when there's so much out there that you haven't seen. I know exactly what you're saying about the big fancy movements and tournament style fighting. I did it for a few years when I first started as a teenager and did very well. Then I got a bit older, smartened up and got the hell out. What I do now is completely different from that and has nothing to do with that stuff at all. There are some really good reality based systems out there if you look hard enough.

I just recently started training in kenpo, but until I get better I just rely on my super-scary looks to deter any "problems"

I don't know how you take full advantage of those evil looks, especially since you come across as a big softie-at-heart most of the time on the JCF.

That's what I'm interested in. I don't want to just learn how to dance around and look awesome. I want to be able to defend myself, especially against the big guys who seem to just absorb blows like a bag of sand. Unfortunetely I'm only 5'5", and about 130 Ibs. Not very scary looking. MY opinion Ninja....take Judo or kickboxing. Judo is more grappling and manipulation....which is great since most fights end up wrestling and rolling and what not. Kick boxing, those guys are just tough.....they throw a kick faster than most people can throw a punch. Those guys a true fighters.....and the thing I always liked about a kickboxing match.....no matter who won or lost or had down and dirty the match got......those guys are still respectful of each other almost 100% of the time.-Lou

I have been training some Shaolin Kung Fu (classic style). Pretty cool, but I got tired of because every technique is done "on a straight line" (Buddha only had a straight path to train on, blah blah blah etc ). The good thing was that we had an actual warrior monk from the Shaolin temple as our instructor. He knew all the cool stuff, like controlling your heart beat with meditation, and how to break iron bars with your head
