deliverence and wiseblood are what I consider real "COC"

Dude, don't take this the wrong way, but how do you know what real C.O.C is, when you haven't heard all they have to offer. You'd probably brown yer trousers if you heard Animosity.

The remaining albums are pretty much what we all know and love about C.O.C, except for the forgettable vocals of new singer Karl Agell on Blind. Mike Dean apparently left the band to join the Peace Corps, so was replaced by a new bass player Phil Swisher, and new vocalist Agell. Fortunately they booted Agell and had new guitar player Pepper Keenan take on full time vocals. Smartest thing they ever did in my opinion.

No way. Blind... best COC album ever! Karl Agell... best COC vocalist ever. He and Phil Swisher have a band called Leadfoot, and they're very cool old-school blusey rock. Their first album, Bring It On, was awesome. They've got another called We Drink For Free, which I also have, but the production on some of the songs is not that great. Not sure about any others offhand that they've done, but Karl's voice is awesome, IMO.

I'll have to check them out. However, I still don't think his voice fit with C.O.C. Even though I've been a fan of C.O.C since the first album, my favourites are Wiseblood and America's Volume Dealer.

Power metal, also know as nerd metal, is a combination of Iron Maiden, Dungeons and Dragons, computer games, and staying up all night drinking Jolt and discussing the finer points of a +3 sword.

So, technically, Dio could be considered power metal?

Yeah, it is a great song! I love those albums, too, and think Pepper's cool. He originally tried out for the vocal spot before Karl, but he brought his guitar with him, they asked him to play, then decided they wanted to have a two-guitar band, then hired Karl. I really dig Pepper's vocals, but something about Blind and Karl's voice just really moves me. I've got all their old stuff, too, and should dig that out soon. The only thing I didn't get was the live album and the newest album (I can't even remember the name of the new one).

Those are pretty good, but I put my money one Bolt Thrower unless you're a ren-fair fan

Blind Guardian are not as cheesy as many other power metal bands, but they are my favourite band. Check out welcome to dying or banished from sanctuary

Luca Turilli played on (and I think wrote the songs for) the Fairyland album. The name might be ridiculous, but the playing is very good. I get the idea most of you haven't listened to it yet...

Re: Power metal recommendations for me?

Bolt Thrower is NOT power metal. And honestly I don't care what kind of music you guys like listening to. I just like ribbing music that isn't to my taste. And Rev. Tim, you can buy just about any metal CD in print online from Relapse Records or Century Media.

And I had never heard of Fairyland, somone else brought that up, I was just tickled by the name. And I seriously doubt that I would like them, since I am not really a power metal fan, though I do like my Iron Maiden as much as the next guy.

...And don't forget www.theendrecords.com which offers a nice selection of metal albums as well. I'm about to finalize my secord order when them but it's mostly for my brother who wants Virgin Black, After Forever, and Edge Of Sanity albums. I'm only getting one this time... Lost Horizon's second disc "A Flame To The Ground Beneath".
