Guys, which Spyware software do you guys reccomend. AdAware-SpySweeper or Spy Doctor? I don`t mind paying a little more for better protection, I am getting hammered right now by Spy Asses Thanks-Jack.

Re: Spyware Protection-Which One?
i tried the Free ones from all of them, but the problem is, they just tell you what your computer has, and then to get rid of them you have to Register, so I click on that button, they want you to buy the product to get rid of the Spyware. How do you guys use the Free versions without paying? Thanks-Jack.

Re: Spyware Protection-Which One?
A combination of MOZILLA FIREFOX browser (very important) with a once-a-month hard drive sweep using the free Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy are all I need to keep those fuggers off my computer.
Mozilla Firefox is MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH less vulnerable than Internet Explorer. How do I know this? I used Internet Explorer for years in combination with the Lavasoft and Spybot programs, and I would run a check once a week and found lots of spyware and stuff. A few months ago, I caved in to peer pressure and great reviews, and convinced myself to downloade the Mozilla Firefox browser. My weekly spyware scans have been reduced to once a month, and sometimes the sweeps don't turn up with any spyware at all, or maybe one or two bits of spyware.
I don't think I really need to say any more... plus, it's free, so even King Cheapass (myself) thinks it's good.

Re: Spyware Protection-Which One?
Where do you folks surf that causes you to get spyware and stuff? I've been on the Internet since before web browsers and before that on dial-up BBS systems and Compuserve and I have only gotten one piece of badly written spyware/virusware ever - that's been about 20 years with just one incident.
I realize it's an epidemic of sorts but I just have never had these problems. I would really like to get an understanding of how folks are getting comprimised.I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

Re: Spyware Protection-Which One?
I blame the risky porno sites I sometimes visit.
Kazaa and other file-sharing programs have them. Other websites will load them onto your computer as well. Some websites promise you something (free access to partner sites or whatever) in exchange for them dumping spyware/ads onto your system, and naive users will click "yes" because they don't know any better.

Re: Spyware Protection-Which One?
OK, i bought AdAware, because it was $29.99 and a 1 time cost. It found some Spyware and I deleted them, but my modem ethernet light is still going off and I ran it again and it found 3 in like 5 minutes after the intial cleaning. What could be causeing this to happen this fast, doesn`t AdAware kill them and stop this? There is still something on my computer letting a bunch of crap in!! I never had this problem until I had to reconfigure my computer recently. Jack.

there's probably spyware in your registry that ad-aware isn't finding. Downlaod Hi-jackThis, and read the instructions. Don't delete random registry files but those that you're sure are spyware. The best thing to do is format your computer, then start fresh with anti-spyware software. That's what I did and I always have spyware doctor in my system tray blocking everything out, along with zone-alarm pro and norton system works premium.. I also use Firefox like NOTP recommended. Nothings touched my computer ever since

Seriously, Mozilla Firefox is like the ultimate pleasure condom for the internet. Nothing will touch you except for the good stuff.
Each anti-spyware program will miss things. I have two to cover my arse. There's no "magic bullet" that can nuke ALL spyware on a computer (unless there's one that I don't know about yet). One will catch things that another one misses and so forth.
