Re: Had a little accident

Maybe some of you guys are intstalling the deer whistles backwards?

Anyhoo, I agree that if they hear it constantly, they get used to it. They finally get used to the sound of cars in an area, and they're not afraid of them. They hear the whistles so much that it's a common sound, and they're not afraid. If they were being hunted unto extinction, they'd get used to people and gunshots.

Ummm, Not the case in my neck of the deer woods. As an avid hunter, nothing is more frustrating than seeing everyone else in the family bag a deer (with their vehicle) but you. I mainly bow hunt....I do a limited amount of gun hunting. There are just too many "one day a year...I gotta kill something...I don't care what it is, as long as it's breathing" hunters out there during gun season. I've seen guy's throw lead at nothing more than a sound...It's scary...But it only lasts a week.

Point is, the last couple days of gun season around here, deer are so skittish from gunshots, they jump at their own shadow. Then they run out in the road, and get hit.

Solution to deer strikes...There is none. At least none that will make everyone happy campers. The PETA people say it's cruel to hunt, yet if we didn't hunt, just think how large the deer population would be, and how many more deer stikes we would have. BTW...I say PETA stands for "Prefer Eating Tasty Animals"

Personally, I think increased bag limits wouldnt hurt. In Ohio, I can only kill one antlered deer per year. I killed an 8 pointer a couple weeks ago on my first morning out this year. I have another tag...but it is for a doe only. Not much incentive to get me back out in the woods.

I still can't believe that the fender is undamaged. Other than the door frame being bent everything else is a simple fix.

Re: Had a little accident

My Honda hit two deer at the same time, and the guy behind me smacked my bumper.

I got a cracked bumper, a flat tire, broken windshield, a dent in the hood, the head lamps broken. I'll post pics of it tonight, like I've had the windshield repaired, and same with the tires, but I left the other damage.

Re: Had a little accident

Deer whisles work. But deer get used to them. I will keep putting them on my trucks/cars anyway though! I saw a Black Bear on Friday that was dead on the side of the road... If you think deer do damage.... hit a 400 T0 500 POUND BEAR... The funny thing is that the cops put cones around it on the side of the road... i guess they could not lift it and did not want to wait for a top loader.... lol.

Re: Had a little accident

not to belittle your incedent there mudkicker because those accidents can be scary and dangerous, but as far as the damage goes, thats just a love tap. Most of the deer hits we see are alot more damage. most take out the grille, one fender, bend the bumper, take out one or both headlamps, blinkers, usually a door, and some bust the windshield too. So they are usually in the $3000 to $7000 range for estimates. Every once in a while you get a minor one like yours that just gets a light hit. hard for me to judge closely from the pics, but it looks like a $800 to $1500 hit depending on the severity of the door dent whether the skin has to be replaced or they can pull the dent. I am curious to know what the estimate was?? are they gonnar repari the dent or replace the door skin? Its depends on what insurance company and adjuster you have as to what they decide.

Anyway, thats minor damage, I am just glad all the people are all OK. I had a woman come in last week that hit a deer with her Tahoe and she was crying and whining about her poor wrecked car, maybe I am a a$$hole, but I didnt have any sympathy for her. Cars are replaceable, people arent. I would be DAMN thankful that noboday was injured or killed in the accident. Metal and plastic can be replaced, thats what insurance is for. You cant replace people or limbs oe eyesight,etc.... I like to remind people of that.

Re: Had a little accident

Tone I agree. Compared to other deer hits mine is minor. And as I have stated I am over joyed that no one was hurt. But I am pissed that my brand new 2004 Suburban LT is damaged. The light bezel, the front grille, the wheel housing guard are easy fixs. The front bumper is bent down again bolt on a new bumper a piece of cake. The door however is going to be a sticking point. The deer hit it in a way that the rear post by the drivers head is bent. Allowing air to bleed into the car. You can't see it with the naked eye, but you can hear the air seeping in as you drive and if you ran your hand along the post you can feel the buckle.
I used to paint cars along time ago for two different dealerships and a privately owned body shop. I am expecting a huge battle over the door. When I worked most adjusters only wanted to repair visible damage. I have seen to many leaky windshields, leaking trunks, doors all resulting from hidden damage that the adjusters didn't want to repair. Causing the customers to have fits with their insurance company.
When the adjuster gets to us later this week I hope this won't be an issue but I have seen it all to often.

Hopefully your experience in the field will prompt them to gve it up and repair it the way you want, since your testimony in a civil suit would be expert. Do they really want to open a can of worms?
