Re: What kind of vehicle should I get?

As far as price vs. lengevety you can't go wrong with Subaru or Honda. Test drive a few and find something you like. I will also add, if you're buying a used vehicle out of factory warranty make sure you get an extended warranty. The point of sale is the cheapest time to get the coverage and it can pay off big time. MBP is the best one out there if they offer it.
My goal in life is to be the kind of asshole my wife thinks I am.

Honda Civic. I've got a honda, and it's sweet as can be. Mines a 93. It has 147777 miles on it. It gets 33 city, and upwards of 42-43 highway (I drive a stick), 1.5 engine (I think the newer ones are a bit bigger) and I've replaced, brakes, rotors, tires, valve cover gasket (15$ part) fuel filter (normal) gas cap.

That's it, and it's got a great deal of acceleration if you get a cold air filter in it

Best of all, you can get one for around 1900-2500 from my year, so you may not need a long loan, AND I'm betting it will last a few years. If you want to spend a bit of money, but still save, buy a newer Honda, you'll have a nicer, newer car, the bullet proof reliability of a Honday (watch mine will break down after typing this) and good gas mileage, and well a Honda!

You want something inexpenisve, dependable, and decent gas mileage. If you anly need enough space for you, your wife and the dog and not anyone else. Then you need to look at the Jeep Wranglers. Plenty of room for the 3 of you. With the new extended body version you probably won't have to take out your back seat for the dog.
I have had my Wrangler going on 14 years, I have replaced the drive belt once, the starter once, and thats it. Jeep comes with the same 7 year warranty that Dodge and Chrysler have. Do not under any circumstance get the 2.5L Wrangler. I made that mistake only get the 4.0L.

I've found my Toyota, while not very "cool", is a really reliable car. In the 70,000 miles I've put on it, I've dumped about $1000 into repairs. And I got it with 90K on it, bringing the total to 160K without any serious problems. It stills runs as well as the day I got it.(Crosses fingers)

Well whatever you do buy, just don't buy from Jack Schmitt or Mungenast anything, trust me... Save yourself some grief!

Go see my cuz at West County Saturn, tell him yer a bud of mine. Don't know what they have in the way of used, but...

Moore Caddy are great folks, but again, not sure on the used stuff. Sinclair, Weber, Sunset, Seeger, oph and there's a Toyota dealer on 21 in S County, down from Whities.. Doc's HD, oh wait, they don't sell cars...

Let me know bro, I've bought a lot of cars in this town and most are pretty decent with coming through for you, but there are a few, Mainly Mungenast, stay far away from them. And they own some dealers that don't sport their name, so ask if needed.

Weber swapped the alternator in my Grand Am the other day (it died on 270 and I managed to get halfway up the offramp to Olive). They seemed to have a decent selection. I'll keep the rest in mind. Thanks a lot.

Re: What kind of vehicle should I get?

Oh, and if you can pay cash, I got a good bud down at the lake that sells cars, old, new, cheap or not so cheap, he doesn't finance tho.

My bro's got an 02 Mustang GT with 35k on it, I think he owes around $14k on it, so he'd prolly want that.

Dunno, let me know if you need some help tho.

Good luck!

Unfortunately I'd have to finance right now. The Mustang would sound cool but I just need a little more room than that. Thanks again. I'll let you know.

And whatever you do, don't go to Suntrup!!! They SUCK!!! I bought my TA from The Dean Team and I talked them down BAD!!! I paid $17,300 for my 98 TA in 2001 it only had 19,500 miles on it and Blue Booked at $24,000!! Trade in Blue Book was $18,400!
Like Pat said Moore is a good place, oh, and Behlmann is good too.... Wait, are they still around? Haven't heard anything about them in a couple years... Anyway goodluck, oh and if you get a Honda or Toyota, they last forever! I don't care for Subaru's co'z all the heads crack at 80,000 or so miles....

I agree with the Scion recommendation. The XB's sell new for under 13,000 and have a ton of room. The XA's start under 14,000 and are roomy as well. Very, very, very reliable drivelines. I've been looking at getting a TC for my wife if the dealer could ever keep one on their lot for more than a day.

Or you could buy a USED Honda, Toyota, or Subaru, and barely need to finance anything if you bought an older model.

Trust me on this, new cars are nice, but don't buy a BRAND new one, unless you're getting a warranty, remember that it loses like 60% of it's value over the first month or something they say. Where as a used car is still in the ball park of what you can get.

Also the advantage of buying used is, you own it QUICKER, which means, unless you want to, you don't have to carry full coverage. The downside to this is, many people would. Myself, I would have lost several thousand dollars in paying for full coverage.

That said, once you pay off the car quick, say something does happen, you could unload the car, buy a new one, and still be better off than a brand new one.

What I mean about full-coverage is, everytime I go to buy a new car, it's the insurance that turns me away. I could afford up to like a 375$ per month payment, BUT insurance would have to be reasonable. When you take that I get quotes full coverage wise for 200$+ and almost 300$ depending on what I pick, it makes sense for me to save my car payment money, pay off my other loan, and run a used car.

And one last thing...if the car is bought and paid for...you will have less inhibition about smashing the crap out of it, and putting a vid on the JCF :P

Yeh, beware of Suntrup!!!! I bought my 325i from them in 01, what a bunch of tools! They never did make it right, so I bought their domain... www.westcountybmw.com I never did anything with it, but I'll never let it go.

That's why they always advertise Suntrup this or that and not West County BMW like they used to... That'll skool em!!!
