  • Creating an MP3 File from a CD

I have a CD of one of our Jams.

I use to have cakewalk on my old computer. It got outdated.

Anyone know what is the best way to convert stuff to an MP3 or other playable file for computers.

Windows media 9 or later can rip them into .WMA's at a decent rate (192 I think). Thats if you don't mind them beinf .WMA instead of .MP3

How were the "jams" recorded initially? Where is the raw data from that?

I just use a file convertor (the one I use is Musicmatch Jukebox). It's a snap!
You can convert anything to .wav, .mp3 or .wma

Easy CD-DA Extractor is my fav program. 30 days free, and then cheap to get and MY cheap ass bought it!

It will get the song names and rip CD to WAV,M3, MP4 all other stuff too, as well as converting those other formats to whatever format. Very handy program,

Check it out, you'll probably like it, I use it all the time.

When you guys convert it do you just save it to a file name on the computer then?

I looked in Windows media it looks like I can save it to another CD but it does not tll me how to save it as a file on my system.

Re: Creating an MP3 File from a CD

Okay.. for Windows Media Player (I have version 10) this is what you do:

Put your CD in the drive
Open Windows Media Player (or it opens automatically)
                Choose Tools/Options
                Click on Rip Music
At Rip Settings you want to select mp3
Below that you can set your audio quality settings and you can choose where your music will be ripped to.

If you don't have Windows Media Player 10 you can download it from the WMP website for Free!! But you need to have Windows XP to do it.

Now to actually rip the CD to your hardrive go to:
                File
                then choose CDs and devices
click on Rip audio CD and follow prompts.

If you don't have Windows XP you can still rip your CD using WMP, but it will be in .wma format.

The other thing you can do is take your CD and save it all to a file on your hard drive and then use a file convertor like Music Match to rip the files from .wav to mp3.

                Hope this helps.
                Goodluck,
                Em

I use Razor Lame. It is free and works great.

I use the free Quintessential media player. It's a really nice one-stop piece for media playback / ripping and comes stock with codecs that'll rip up to 320 kbps.
