Re: What\'s next? A 7-11 on Mt. Everest??

While most coffee companies are screwing over 25 million coffee farmers in third world countries (who are already being screwed over by strict trade laws), Starbucks is actually one of few making an effort to help them... and for that I'll pay an extra buck or two for coffee.

As for Wal-mart, while a lot of people benefit from its cheap prices and employment, it's a monopoly and destroys all small business's where ever it goes... so **** 'em. Mom and pop stores are what keep a community strong... everyone knows each other on a personal level and you help each other out. Wal-mart robotizes towns and takes away values.

Yes, but you don't have to buy them... every Starbucks here has a Dunkin Donuts next to it.

Mom and pop stores often pay less and offer less benefits than Wal-Mart, though they WILL lie to you for years on end saying they're ABOUT to provide benefits, stringing you along
with false hope of an improved lot. As always, there are 3 sides to the story. Reading a few leftist-inspired articles doesn't mean you know the whole story.

Capitalism tends towards private monopoly; socialism and Communism tend toward government
imposed monopoly. Since the left and right philosophies seem to lead to the same place, why not go with the more efficient capitalist model. We know that Communism failed in Russia and only holds on in China due to huge amounts of prison slave labor. So what's the solution? You can hate it, but what would YOU do about it?

...because they can't compete thanks to places like Wal-Mart. You can't give higher wages and cheaper products and still make profit if you're a mom and pop store, it's not their fault. I'm not an economist and can't offer the best solution off the top of my head, but there are plenty of ways to help balance the competition. However, when the majority of the population loves Wal-mart, its not going to happen. Wal-mart has the megamarket industry monopolized, and Home-Depot has the hardware industry monopolized... its great we can get stuff at low prices, it sucks that no one else can compete.

'Round here, we have huge Rona and Canadian Tire departments competing with Home Depot. There are probably a few more giant conglomerates such as these but they all seem the same to me, which is why I cannot remember their names.

Actually my tastes are varied. I have only one fetish really.
But anyway....

That's Joel?!!
He's definitely nice to look at. In a "I'm going to wash the cement with your face" kinda way!
I hope he doesn't see my post. (me hiding)

And I did not say Newc is a Milktoast.
Only that dude in the Stargate Man with Dog picture is.
The real Newc is much much cuter.

God, I gotta shut up now before this hole gets deeper.
Why do I start threads here??!!

Now I have to ask... what IS a milktoast in this reference exactly? I hit UrbanDictionary.com but found the wrong context...
