[ QUOTE ]
True Rich, But every interveiw you see with Phil, he's usually so fuckin' inebriated (sp?) that I doubt he even remembers half of the shit he spews about people. He once referred to Darrel (in an interveiw shortly after Pantera announcing their breakup) that he thought of him as a brother...they fought like brothers, but that he would still give his life for him. Yeah...he'll be feeling this for the rest of his life.

[/ QUOTE ]You're right Ken, and I did say I don't think he really meant anything; but he did realize in his rambling that he has fanatical fans "...who will do anything I say...".Knowing that at least one loco fan MAY have acted on him running his mouth, maybe he can learn to watch his mouth.Chances of that are nil, though... more likely he'll OD to escape the pain, leaving the rest of us to deal with it.Stupid fukking PHIL is the one who broke up Pantera. No one should be killed for that, but if you ARE gonna do it, get the right one, you stupid fukk!

Don't know if you guys saw this, but Dean Zelinsky has posted a very poignant statement on the Dean site. In fact, it's the only thing you can see on the site right now.

A very touching tribute to a guitar legend. Thanks for the link Crankdaddy.

Wow, I gotta apologize for my last posts. I shouldn't be allowed near a computer when I'm drunk.

Yeah, it seems wrong to have Dave Mustaine host the tribute show for Dime. Dave's a media whore! It should be Scott Ian, Zakk, or maybe Pepper Keenan.

[ QUOTE ]
I wish they picked someone else. It sucks having a guy who over the years referred to Dimebag as "Douchebag Darrell" presenting such an important rememberance.

[/ QUOTE ]Well, quite a few of us were criticizing him for the Krank ad with the bag of weed a couple days ago, or suggesting Ron kick his ass at NAMM. Seeing that Darrellwas such a good-natured guy, would he want us fighting over who hosts the tribute? The perfect guy would be Zakk Wylde, but he is probably not up to it, and that applies to Scott Ian too quite possibly. If Dave Mustaine of all people has enough remorse and humility toeat his words and do this, well I think Darrell would have forgiven the Douchebag remarks. He may have even laughed at them in life.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think this is very true. Way too close to the incident for the guys who were real close to him. I would have had Portnoy and Petrucci host it seeing as Petrucci gives Dime a ton of credit and Portnoy origanally asked Darrell to do the LTE project but they never could schedule it... Then again no one who watches MTV would know those guys anyway and I am sure they consider that so Mustaine it is. Zakk I am sure would have been first choice or Scott and he does a ton with MTV and VH-1 but no doubt those guys are not up to it

The gunman was a nutcase period. They both said things I sure they would want to take back. Let this be a lesson to all of us. Make our peace with our love ones every single day.

I'm calling my brother today. Just to tell him that I love him. We don't do a lot in my family , but now its time to start.

To have it happen on stage, that is supposed to be a safe haven. Nothing bad should ever happen there.

Well, today it seems like the hurt is more "real". Yesterday I walked around in a daze. My husband woke me up yesterday morning with the bad news. Which really meant alot to me, you see he's 59 years old (I'm 36) and he knows NOTHING about metal, except I play it, and I go to shows.
When Damageplan came to town I was so excited, and I played my husband a few Pantera songs and told him all about Dime. I was crushed when they cancelled the show. Then a couple of weeks later, they made it up, and I was wound up again!! The show was awesome, it was all my husband heard about for days. I got a pick from Bob Zilla, and a shot of Jack. The first words my husband said, was "honey, I'm sorry, but Dime has been shot and killed." Then he hugged me. I have the greatest man in the world. He has put up with Pantera/Damageplan blasting in the house ever since (he gets a break while i'm at work..), but never complained. He didn't know Dime, but feels my pain with me. It's hard to explain, but I'm sure glad I got him.

Phil was stupid but the blame for this can't squarely fall on him IMO. Nathan Gale was just a nutball. Plain and simple. Who even knows what his motives were... He may not have been a fan or anything and was just plain nuts and looked in the paper and said I am going to kill at this concert tonight. I am not excusing Phil but until we know more of the story it is really not fair to even speculate about that IMO.

I don't blame Phil because I don't believe that he literally intended for any of this to happen, but I hope he learns to be more responsible with what he says because like it or not public figures do influence some people in all the wrong ways.

I don't know what the basis for choosing Mustaine was, but I think its cool that he's hosting. Its good to see the community coming together for Dimebag, especially Mustaine who might genuinely want to honor him by doing this show. At least it isn't LARS!

I can see where people would want to lay blame on someone (other than that nut Nathan Gale) People are looking for answers to why this had to happen. None will possibly be found. It's plain and simple actually...the guy was nut, and he cracked. It's kinda hard to blame Phil (or anyone else) for something of this magnatude to happen, even considering what Phil has been saying lately. It's not going to ease the pain, or shed light on this anytime soon.
