Update: PHILIP ANSELMO Barred From DIMEBAG's Funeral; JERRY CANTRELL Performs Acoustically - Dec. 14, 2004
BLABBERMOUTH.NET has confirmed that former PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo did NOT attend the the funeral of DAMAGEPLAN/ex-PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott — apparently because he was told that he was "not welcome" at any of the events honoring the late musician that was slain last week at a nightclub in Columbus, Ohio. Anselmo's former PANTERA/DOWN bandmate Rex Brown (bass) DID attend, as did a number of other high-profile musicians, such as Zakk Wylde (OZZY OSBOURNE, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY), Eddie Van Halen, Jerry Cantrell (ALICE IN CHAINS), Jim Root (SLIPKNOT), Corey Taylor (SLIPKNOT), Paul Gray (SLIPKNOT), and Dino Cazares (ex-FEAR FACTORY).
Cantrell reportedly performed an acoustic number at the funeral, while Eddie Van Halen gave a speech that included an impromptu playback of a phone message he had received from Abbott at some point before his death.
Well, there's the answer. Rex did attend the funeral. Damn, that sux that it happened that way. But those are some great pics, lol. Thanks for postin em

thats really not faireveryone should be given the possibility to say good by, regardless of what was in the past
[/ QUOTE ]Why should Darrell's family and friends have to include the guy whose big mouth may have caused this? I'm sick of people saying "he was just talking sh1t"; the rappers have been killing each other for years behind this crap, now Phil may have too. Whether he triggered NG or not, he wished harm and death on Darrell just before he was killed, to widespread publication. Ifr it hurts his feelings, too bad. The Abbotts have NO obligation to forgive him right now, and if I were Vinnie and Phil showed up I would fukk up his world for him. Phil deserves to not say goodbye. Anyone who thinks otherwise should think about it, maybe you talk a lot of sh1t too and figure you should get to slide if somethng bad happens. Well, you shouldn't; loose lips sink ships, and Darrell may be dead because psycho Phil set off psycho NG.
I know of the interview, and posted it way back in this topic. Rex is still a different story, but he still chose to walk out on Pantera just the same dispite knowing what Phil said.
Regardless, Phil didn't mean it literally and was just spouting off bullshit. The reports are that the fan was a crazy POS so delusioned that he thought HE was the songwriter for Pantera's music, and if that's the case, then it has nothing to do with what Phil said. Don't get me wrong though. Anselmo really made an ass of himself by saying that sh*t, but not once did he intend for Darrel to die.
I wish they could bury the hatchet. Phil obviously talked a lot smack but they spent good part of 15 years together. They had professional differences not so much personal ones. I think Phil cared about Darrell, even came to Dallas only to be told he wasn't welcome. No I don't know the whole Phil story but he came to show respect for Darrell and to say goodbye. I think the family should have wanted what Darrell wanted, I think he would have wanted him there, Phil had more right than a drunken EVH imho...The family could have told him that they didn't want a disturbance publicly (and I can certainly see that) with a few thousand people there but they could have arranged a private viewing for him to pay his last respects ahead of time, at least at the funeral home.
I can't speak for how they must feel right now, I can only offer a perspective. But given Phils attitude towards Darrel in the very recent past..I believe his prescence would have brought some uncomfortable moments to a time when his family and loved ones are probably still reeling in shock or at the very least, much grief. His being there could spark anger and even some disruption. Its all to fresh and by doing this they are making a statement of how they feel, however right or wrong. Look at Mustaine coming out and wanting to make amends on old wounds. The time to make amends and to say goodbye will have to be some time down the road... and this one will unfortunately and most likely be a deep rut to bridge.
let's see if i can possibly shed some light on this situation. this is going to be a fairly grim post as some know what's up with me and some don't. today is the second day that i have not shot 400 plus cc's of heroin in my arm in over two months. that's alot of heroin. yes, there's been some cocaine in the spoon at times as well and xanax, and all kinds of shit because i have been so busy feeling sorry for myself that when i cleaned up last time, for the next year and a half i watched my life go straight down the tubes. well, on the way to work today, and it's a miracle i'm here, cuz i am fuckin' sick as hell, the dimebag thing really finally hit me because i was not numb anymore and i just broke into a thousand tears on the way to work. now. i've heard phil has also had bouts with this horrible drug, and when you're on it, believe me you can probably say some stupid shit. ****, my foot was on fire once and it did not matter a bit until one of my buddies put it out. so what i'm saying is, there is no way on god's earth that phil anselmo wanted this or any real harm to happen to dime. i just know this. i gotta get back to my title fight now with the mighty H, it's round two today and i want to win. phil was just numb and stupid, just like i've been. i have some apologies to make as well. i hope this clears a few things up on this issue with phil. now, back to feeling lie hanging myself. i hope they let phil pay his respects because i know he wants too in the worst way. i'll see you guys later.
