    Re: What would you buy???

I will need to look at the Civic. There is no Audi in my future. They are entirely too expensive. I have to buy an automatic because my wife can't drive a standard and she has no desire to learn.
    How about the Mitsubishi Lancer?
The dealer with the Electric Blue Neon SXT sold it this morning. He has 2 more, one in silver and one in red.
They are all 2004 leftovers, loaded with the spoiler and premium wheels, power everything, CD player, for $10,890.00 each. That is pretty hard to pass up. There resale value is aweful though.

I think the Jetta with a TDI would be very good choice, although you have to remember to cool down the turbos after you drive. The Altima is a very good bang for the buck. The Neon is one of the best used cars to buy because they dont hold their value at all. When the new Neon is finally released, it will make the older ones even more of a good buy.......I think as long as you arent driving the Neon in the snow, or really fast, its a great car for the money you pay. The Jetta's 2.0 leaves alot to be desired. Maybe you can look into the Jetta V6, or the Jetta with the 2.0T.........

honda, i had over 200,000 on mine before the timing belt went. & it ran perfect, the frame was bent from a accident so i didnt want to throw $ at it to get a new belt. my mother, father & sister now all own hondas, they are great cars, that run forever & have great resale value. if its not a truck/SUV or a rear wheel drive V8, i will probably never buy an american companies car again. jetta nice cars but when they do break VW parts are expensive.

That's why I would buy nothing on your list. Toyota Corolla or Camry, Honda Civic or Accord...that's pretty much the only cars that you will not take a bath on in four years.

I vote for the Saturn, the Toyota or the Volk.
I don't think I'd buy a new car again given the depreciation, unless the incentive is great. I'd look for one with low miles, in great shape that is about two years old where the warranty is still in effect, but still can be extended.

Before I went to work at the plant,I was a Toyota Tech for 4 years and before that was a Tech at a GM,Nissan,Honda dealership for 3 years.I made a living changing brake pads, timing belts and fuel filters on the Toyotas. Thats all that really went wrong with them.Honda was almost the same way, then Nissan.GM,different story.I would buy the Toyota or the Honda.

VWs all use oil. That is the sole reason I wouldn't buy one. Well, also the Jetta is underpowered IMHO.

I would think the Mitsu would be just as expensive as the Mazda, but if you can get one in your price range, I've heard nothing but good things about them.

From your list, I would personally go for the Altima.

Dude, if you lease a car, you might as well hand cuff yourself to the bumper.
They will make sure you stay upside down in the loan until you turn it in.
Don't do it, take your $3000 and put it towards a good $10000 car, leaving you with a $7000 loan for about $140/month for 60 months.

Actually most people use the wrong oil in their VWs. As for Mitsu, I heard they were close to bankrupt, and were thinking of giving up on the car industry altogether. Here is a site with lots of love for them:

                              Toyota or Honda.
My wife bought a new VW in 2001 and keeps breaking.
                              My Toyota 4Runner is great.
I recommend Honda. The best for the money you spend.

Is this 10890.00 before or after rebates???? If this is before, even though I hate a Neon with a passion, I would jump on it....in our business district, there is either 1000 or 1500 for financing with chrysler, and 4500 consumer cash...that right there knocks the price wayyyy down....if you want a Neon just for shits and giggles, and dont what the colors they have, tell him to locate you one...Im sure you wont get it as cheap, but if they really wanna make the sale, they will go wherever needed to get the car you want, with the options you want....
