• Tips on marketing music.

I already have a lot of info, but I'd like some opinions from you guys.

I'm recording my own music at home. Once I have everything recording and I have everything on master cassettes/cd-rs, I'm gonna take them to a studio for final mastering, packaging, and duplication. I'll probably do 100-200 copies of my first release. I'm gonna copyright and sell this stuff on my own, under my own self-made label. Since I'm the only member of my "band", I don't really perform live.

What ways can you guys think of for me to get this stuff sold and get my name out, given my current circumstances. I'm gonna try the website thing, of course. I'd like not only to sell my stuff, but use it to attract possible recording contracts and/or collaborations with other musicians/bands.

      Who's doing the artwork?

Not sure man, has anyone ever heard your music? You need to get that out first, and free. How? Hand em out at the appropraite shows, maybe a single on a mini disk with a cool image on it, flashy and trendy.

      First things first tho.

Yes, getting free stuff to people to at least get their interest is a must. Along with free sample mini-discs I'll have a website with MP3s, info etc. Some buisness/website cards will be needed, of course. How else can I get people's interest other than going to appropriate shows and handing out free stuff? Mmmmm. I wonder if I could work out some deals with friends of mine. Equip them with free samples/cards and have them go hand stuff out at shows. Yes, that could work quite well, like my own little empire.

I wouldn't put much time or resource into business cards... Skant skanks always work, sex sells...

Are you serious? That really helps sell your own music, as in actually make money?

What about college radio's, internet radio's, metal radios, etc. You worked for a metal radio station didn't you, Ace? How did you guys want bands to approach you (if at all) about playing some of their stuff on the air?

Dead serious. Try it! It works! Tell all your friends now. Don't waste time! This industry is all about getting "in" when you are young so they can burn you out quick.

                    I would start right away...

Said inspection will require industrial-caliber gloves and a spray bottle with a 4:1 ratio of water and bleach. These chicks are ripe, buddy! The 10% remains negotiable, right?

Ok. Seriously. Put it online. Try to get it on the counter in music stores. Give them store copies that they can play while people are browsing.

Hmmm, I don't think opera-like black/death metal made in my bedroom will go to well with many music stores, but it's something to keep in mind. There's a couple underground stores that might be willing to do so. Shit, I've got some friends to make and networking to do.

Damn, if only I had a small army of hot women only wearing their underwear who could do all these tasks for me. *Starts thinking about making hot robot women.*
