I've the Scales and Modes issue. It's great for reference, but I think it would be difficult for a beginner.

I've started taking lessons for understanding theory, different modes and how they fit. I understand the basic concept of the different modes, my problem is I tend to break things down so far, I start to confuse (and frustrate myself). I can read it on paper and memorize and understand, but somewhere in the mix, I find it difficult converting it to the fretboard.

I've seen some clips of the videos and they are a riot. I have paged throught he books at the store, but they seem to be really confusing. I also have difficulty leartning from books and am better off watching someone do it in order to learn. That's why I enjoy porn videos and get bored with porn mags.

Dude, if you learned everything by watching porn videos, then I feel a little sorry for the girl you're with. Perhaps you should get her some wet naps for Christmas.

IMHO, it is the guitarist's version of the home treadmill.
Many players have it but most never use it.

I'll give these books a good vote. I find them to be an excellent resource, not the best book for the beginner. While there is some information in the beginning chapters of basic theory concepts, these books are aimed more towards intermediate and advanced players that already know basic theory at least.

you'd be surprised what you can learn from porn videos....after you get bored with all that "sweet lovemaking" crap, you need to get a little dirty and freaky. Kind of like when you first started playing guitar and had to learn "mary had a little lamb" and "ode to joy"...barf. I went straight for the "hangar 18" tab and rocked my bedroom.
