• Car Audio know how

I'm pretty swift when it comes to doing car audio applications. I've installed several stereos and sets of speakers...however I've never done it to a Ford before.

I tried to Google for this information, but I cannot find the WIRING COLOR CODES FOR A 1989 FORD ESCORT. All I can find are the standard EIA color codes, and I already know them.

My buddy got his first car, and the people who had it before him, took out the speakers, so I had no reference point as to positive and negative.

USUALLY it's 2 wires, one color with a stripe on one meaning negative, OR it's 2 different color wires, darker one is the negative. However this is odd, it has like a purple wire with a stripe that's yellow, and a yellow wire with a green stripe, just crazy crap like that.

Does ANYONE have a site where I can go to, that has the wiring color codes for FACTORY FORD SPECS? I don't want to wire half of the speakers right, and the other half wrong.

Personally, I wouldn't use the factory wiring, I'd run new wires all over, Escort's not that big, shouldn't be too much involved...

All of the old wiring kits ( in those days ) used to have all of the wiring diagrams with it, but that was 15 yrs ago. I used to install them back in the day as well, but a lot has changed since then no doubt.

Or you could do it the lazy way, hook up the stereo to the speakers then feel them with your finger so see if they suck in on the bass notes....if so switch the polarity, check again (they should push out on the bass notes) and be done with it.If it's tweeters you're dealing with then screw it,rewire it

Rewiring a car front to back is a pain in my ass. I did it to my Civic. It sucked.

That and I just wanted to get him tunes, but thanks Evol, I never even thought of that, and I've actually used that test before (Put a 9V on it blah blah blah).
