Re: Annoying neighbor question...

Go next door and explain the problem. Tell them that it's disturbing to your wife to have the neighborhood kids staring into your backyard. Ask them nicely to relocate the trampoline and if they agree to do so, thank them. If they refuse, thank them again, then go inside and call the police. A "peeping tom" complaint should get the trampoline moved.

Re: Annoying neighbor question...

I think you should just communicate your concerns with them. Too often people today leave it be, call cops, get pent up frustrations over something like this that a little face to face would solve it, most of the time. Common courtesy will go a long way They would probably move it, if they don't I'm sure you could find something that would annoy them.

As a parent of 2 boys I try to be as courteous as I can possibly in terms of neighbors. Kids are kids and will make noise having fun being kids. I think Lerx said that they have all the right to do whatever they want in their own yard. That is true and remember people can be assholes within confines of the law (goes both ways). If people don't want some noise they shouldn't move into a subdivision where families with children live, go live in the country w/o neighbors I have an **** neighbor who bitches about kids around here all the time, they are a couple in their 50's with no kids living in a new hood where its all 30-40 something's with multiple children with an elementary school a few blocks away. WTF move in a neighborhood like that if you don't want to hear kids playing and making noise? Now if my kids are being loud and rude for no reason I'll jump their asses, but if they are just playing with the other kids I let them be and tell whoever is complaining to fukkoff or move If I didn't have to be such an outstanding example for my children, I could have so much fun showing these people how much of a dick if I could be

I agree with that 100% Shawn... Face time will do a lot in a lot of situations...

These are hilarious! I loved the paintball idea and the wall-o-sound idea.
And yes Germ, I am the wife.

I am glad to see that there are other people in this world who believe that one should be a courteous neighbor!! By all means, do what you want to do in your own home and in your own space but when it encroaches upon your neighbors you need to to knock it off.

And with this being a primarily military neighborhood there is still somewhat of a code of conduct, even though we aren't inspected as we would be if we lived on the base.

Anyway! I went over and rang the bell and talked to them.
They moved it right away.
I was not expecting that. I don't think they were particularly thrilled; I suspect they moved the thing towards our side of the fence so as to avoid THEIR dining room.
But problem solved. These guys are cool in my book.

Em

Sorry for the gender mix up. Glad things worked out.

You did the right thing by confronting the problem head on. I've worked too damn hard and spent too damn much money in my home/sanctuary/investment to have some inconsiderate neighbor infringe on my privacy. The direct approach, as long as it's civil, is always the best bet. Pussyfooting around just raises the old blood pressure.

Re: Annoying neighbor question...

I bet they had no idea that the trampoline was bothering you until you went and told them. Just the face time was obviously the right thing to do. My advice if they didn't move it would be to put your trash cans right next to the trampoline on your side of the fence. And start a compost heap there too. Rotten egg shells are a great, and legal, way of keeping unwated people at bay.

Glad it worked out! It seems like neighborhoods aren't quite as friendly as they used to be, & people tend to keep to themselves more. I grew up in a very tight-knit neighborhood where we were all friends & were welcome in each others' homes. An issue like this would have been so easy to solve. Back then, you expected the best from people & were surprised when things didn't work out smoothly. Now, it seems like the opposite is true. I don't know if it's because people tend to move a lot more & not put down roots, or the media have us thinking that each stranger is a potential pedophile or serial killer or whatever, but I see so much less friendliness & sense of community now. Hopefully, things are better where you all live.

Shawn, I totally agree with you! But the thing about neighbours can be also a bit different. In more Murphy-ish style -> the nicer you are, the bigger hypocrites they become.

Sneak over the fence in the middle of the night and slit the trampoline fabric from the bottom, but dont cut all the way through ... when the boys go out to jump on it the next day they will all fall through. One will surely break his leg if not all of them - then their parents will say were getting rid of that thing and you will once again have a view of the clear blue yonder

(disclaimer: dont try this at home.)
