I was thinking mostly of guys that are known more for rhythm, but playing lead certainly doesn't disqualify them.

I didn't think you'd be too bothered either way, Joe. Guys like Mustaine & Hetfield are considered primarily rhythm guitarists but both are certainly capable of taking a lead break. But I remember some getting a bit precious about it last time when folks started posting the names of lead guitarists who also happen to be kick arse rhythm players.
So now that that's out of the way!
my faves (today) in no particular order:
<ul type="square">[*]Vernon Reid (some may not dig his lead style, but there's no denying ol' Vern is a smoking rhythm dude)[*]SRV[*]Nuno Bettencourt[*]Jake E Lee[*]Dave Mustaine[*]Scott Ian[*]Reb Beach
Great list, indeed! I've always been a huge fan of Jake! And I've always liked Vern, too, but I never really followed him or Living Color much.
I've also gotta list Michael Denner and Hank Sherman from Mercyful Fate.

One of my favorite songs to play is Come To The Sabbath. King Diamond drains on me after awhile but the riffs and rythmn changes always keep my interest.
