The sign of the horns...originated in southern Italy...I have an entire book on iy ...

Italians...have a a very superstition / belief that is called Male (evil) Occhio (eye) maleocchio....Dio is %100 Italian ...as I am

If you notice Italians wear two "good luck" charms that deflect the evil eye...the single red horn (resembles a pepper usualy red in color) and the horns made of usually red plastic as well is hung from the rear view mirror....Italians do that when they buy a new car...to protect it from the envy of others..who wish it harm...it's true!!

Even more common you will see Italains wear these same charms around their neck ..usually made of gold...the single horn called the "corni" and the horns...double horns..don't know the correct name..when you want to give someone the evil eye you would do it using that hand gesture..

Dio is Italian and has been writing about "evil eye" material ever since the days of Elf and early Rainbow...

My mother is straight off the boat from Southern Italy and I can vouch for what horns666 is saying. All of my relatives on that side of the family, as well as myself, wear the gold horn on a necklace. Although none of us have anything like that in our cars.
