Re: How Healthy are You People (seriously)

i gotta ask...

with all the "toxin talk" going around, have you ever noticed that no one ever defines what a toxin is? can anyone here?

as for me, i enjoyed a wicked fast metabolism until i was 25. then i gained weight that i'd love to get rid of. i never really took it too seriously until recently. before my accident in november, i was starting to go to yoga with my gf. she does that and pilates everyday, and ice skates a few hours each morning (it's what she does for a living).

i haven't been able to go with her since my wreck, but i'm much better now than i was, so i hope to resume that soon. that stuff can do wonders for ya.

Toxins are just another word for poison right..

I don't have any poison in my body...just a bunch of drugs that's been approved by the FDA given to me by my doctor...so they must be good ...right!!!!!

Sully,

In a nutshell, toxins are basically unusable nutrients derived from food (dead foods like balogne and potato chips and sodas, etc.) and chemicals from bad air, cigarettes, drugs, unclean water... I could go on. Think about what would be toxic to a car engine and how they get there... its a similar concept.
The body's waste removal system (namely the liver) takes care of removing a lot of this but the body can get overloaded. These toxins build up in your blood, muscles and tissues and cause health problems, skin problems, loss of energy, comprimised immunity (slower healing times), etc.
Make sense?
Major toxins (chemicals that are bad for your body) are avoidable by living a healthy lifestyle.

You know, I have been thinking about this a lot lately.
As I approach the big 3-2, I realize that I really do need to take a better look at my health. I'll never be a small man, but I could definitely use some toning up. In the past I was working hard at losing weight, I dropped 35lbs only to gain that and more back. It's really starting to take it's toll on me as I'm now having problems with my feet and back, which I attribute to the weight.

Last night I was watching the Vince Neil makeover show and I thought to myself, if this bozo can do it, so can I! Now, I'm not going to do the whole plastic surgery route that he did, but I could start making a hell of a lot better choices with my diet and my level of physical activity.

yes, i understand to a certain extent. i also kinda believe that the whole "toxin" word is thrown around a lot, and really, i'm kind of a skeptic.

i'll certainly agree that our environment is not conducive to healthy living, but i dunno, i think it gets thrown around a lot to sell stuff that people don't need.

You are absolutely correct here, it is overrated. Our body's are equipped to handle life's normal stresses and we have evolved to live in our environments.
There is no need to do anything different but take care of yourself. There is no magic drug or pill or even herb that is necessary for a healthy lifestyle.
Good/smart maintenance is all that is necessary. A soda or a drink here and there, or a hotdog at a ballgame is not going to kill you, moderation is key. Now 10 hotdogs and 10 beers would be pushing it.
The zealots will try to sell you supplements and tell you you need all sorts of sh!t to be healthy and it's a crock. Like that whole blue algae thing... whatever.

my deal with this is that an old computer chip customer/manufacturer is ramping up to start making these machines and i was wondering if i could sell a few hundred thousand units of them or something like that. they seem kinda pricey but there is room for me to play with on the price if i hit an elephant out there who is gonna step up and take a chance on some of these things. i live in southern cal, the looniest health conscious place on the planet and i am wondering if these will catch on. my customer wants me to sell these for him. thanks for all the input everybody. markpb and guitarsjb, i wish i could quit smoking but it's all i got basically, too big a leap right now for me. hey i'm 5'10 -and creeping back up to the 175 i'm usually at, 162 this morning. i figure if these are gonna sell anywhere it would be here in looney bird southern cal. i gotta fire up a marlboro now.

Tommy, if you are able try and unload these things in Japan. I had an old college buddy who hooked up with Eola to sell herbal crap and ephedra products and he made a fortune. He hooked up with a Japanese couple and the product took off and he's been retired for nine years. He does dik all and rakes in $35k/month from little people looking to prolong their lives. He calls me every couple of months to rub it in.

I used to believe you are what you eat but I'm not a pussy

Since I turned 40 I am a lot more conscience of what I eat and my health. I real active and always been a jock type and played every sport. It is a hard to eat right all of the time with fast foods and whatnot when you need a meal on the run. I don't diet, just try to watch it and exercise which just about everyone could use more of. I'm not int sweets or snacks much.

5'9" to 5'10"
170 in the summer and about 5-7 lbs higher in the winter when I don't run as much as I can.

Mid-30s, 6 ft, 220 lb-ish. (No, I don't actively watch my weight, so .) I no longer work out.

I don't smoke. And having kids - which I wouldn't change for the world - has put such a crimp on my social life, that I rarley even drink anymore. I've become a lightweight (no pun intended) that will get a serious buzz off of 3 beers now.

I would love to take off 20-ish pounds, and lose my spare tire. But, in the prioritization of the limited time in my life, well... This ain't a major priority. I'd probably get 75% of the way there just by getting more serious about watching my eating habits. That's something I probably should really do. Exercise-wise: I flat out don't have the time for it. Although between shoveling, mowing, walking, etc., I am not exactly a slug, either. I could just use more.

I think the whole toxins, vitamin supplement, etc. stuff is a load of crapola that people have bought into because of effective advertising. No offense to the true believers, but I rate it right up there with the health benefits of wearing crystals and magnets.
