This might be old news to everyone:

I remember thinking WTF when I saw this a couple years ago. The bottom half of the top 20 is particularly disturbing with Kurt Cobain, John Frusciante, and, at #17, Jack White!!!
I was reminded of that list when I just saw a tab from a White Stripes song, and except for the intro and the, um, "solo", the whole song is barre chords played in open E tuning. I'm still a beginner on the guitar and I can play the damn thing! (Not worth my time to retune and try, though.)
You'll see a lot of great players on down the list as well as more duds, but the most shockingly out-of-place guitarist is at #70. Eddie Van Halen is the 70th greatest guitarist of all time??? Jack White is a greater guitarist than Eddie Van Halen???
I don't consider Rolling Stone an authority on good music, but how could anybody have their head that far up their ass? This is blasphemy!
