Man, this sucks! Johnny was the greatest, I am very sad this day. God rest his soul, he made a lot of people happy for that 60-90 minutes every night!Rest in peace, Johnny, and thank you for the great memories. America truly loved you.

One of the funniest men to ever live. Some of my earliest memories was my mom letting me stay up late and watch Carson.

      RIP

            Re: RIP- Johnny Carson

Never thought I would get to see him in person, but I was in LA in february 1992, and fortunately was able to see a taping of The Tonight Show just a few months before his last show. After watching him for years, it was great to be able to see him live. Sean Connery was on the show that night, as well as Richard Marx....and the Bartles and Jaymes guys were in the audience. I wasn't feeling well (migraine), and it was a little chilly and raining that day. But once my brother, and friend and I got in the show (which we barely made the cut after all these VIP's walked in at the last minute), I was pretty pumped up. By the time the show was over, my headache was gone. They just mentioned last week that he had been submitting jokes to Letterman. It's great that he respected Letterman so much, especially after what happened with him not getting The TS job. You will always be the best Johnny, and truely missed.

              Re: RIP- Johnny Carson

Supposedly Carson wanted Letterman to get the Tonight Show gig.

Johnny was a much better interviewer than either Leno or Letterman, and his ability to improvise in the monologue when a joke went sour was amazing, also.

Still, you can't feel too sad, since he lived a pretty long life and got to do a lot of amazing things. We should all be so lucky.

Yeah, nobody could "die" in front of an audoience like Johnny! He'd get that look like he thought the lynch mob was gonna hit the stage! Sometimes he was funniest when the jokes themselves bombed! No one will ever beat the classic Carson reaction shots. He really was the king of the talk show genre; I think every talkshow host from here to eternity will be compared to Johnny Carson, and even the best will fall short of him.

                  Re: RIP- Johnny Carson

Johnny was definitely old-school great. There's never been a talk show host that could even remotely fill in his shoes. His career spanned more than 3 decades, and some of the most hillarious moments in TV history are all his. Hopefully NickAtNight or TVLand will air many of the episodes that have never been rebroadcast. There's a lot of great stuff out there somewhere, and from what it sounded like, he didn't want that stuff back out there. Perhaps now it can happen, and we can enjoy what made him so great.
