USPS shipping to Canada

How the heck do I ship a 1 pound package from Connecticut to Canada? I went on the USPS website and the cheapest rate I could find was $14.75 with a 4-6 week delivery time.
Can somebody explain exactly how I can do this seemingly simple task.

USPS Global Priority.... it won't cost much more than that and should get there within a week.

Either that or parcel post, which is probably the rate you got.
