Re: Anyone else here still love playing?

I am one of the two who voted "No, I don't like playing anymore".

The reason is that I have been playing the piano since I was 6 years old. When I started at the university I moved into a dorm room, and having a piano was not possible. Therefor, I ended up playing guitar instead. I have finally realized that I do not have the time to practice alot, and guitar is booring if your technical abilities is not good enough to "play what you feel in your head". With piano, I can do that, and if I dont invest in a digital piano real soon I feel that I am going to forget everything I know about playing the piano too. In the last month, I have sold off almost all of my guitar stuff. All I will keep is my acoustic, just in case I feel like strumming some chords sometime in the future.

Now, I am on a hunt for a good digital piano instead (holy crap are those expensive or not?). Anyone who has any knowledge in that area, feel free to give me some advice (Toejam maybe?)

More than anything!

I went to a rocky phase past couple of weeks. But now I've shaken the block and I'm jamming harder than before.
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

Sorry, I can't give you any advice on that. I've got a little crappy Casio keyboard in my basement collecting dust! I never really did learn to play it properly anyway. Good luck in your search, though.

Hehe, thank you.

I have found a couple of good ones, but I think the market is totally screwed. They cant make a piano that just "feels and sounds like a normal piano", they must also include 10000 sounds, a female voice, 2000 programmed songs, internet access, a 640x480 multi-color LCD screen, tv-card, a fullblown 16-track recording studio, a popcorn machine and retractable legs, so that it could also walk your dog when you want it to. All for the excellent price of $8000+. Really, the models that actually has descent action also includes enough computer power to control a smaller space shuttle. God damnit, why cant they just make a piano with just 1 sound (piano-sound *doh*, no damn strings, robots or saxophone!!), good keys (of wood, not the damn plastic crapola) and NOTHING ELSE?

Hmm, maybe try checking out some keyboard players sites like the guys who were in Dream Theater, like Kevin Moore, Derrick Sherinian, Jordan Rudess or other people who play keyboards to see if they can recommend anything.

Re: Anyone else here still love playing?

I've loved playing since 6 months to a year after I started back in the early 80s. Unfortunately there've been stretches where I've been so busy that I rarely picked up a guitar for a year or more.

Re: Anyone else here still love playing?

I still love playing. When I get in the groove of it things come out that even make me go "holy crap". Unfortunatly, my surroundings kinda kill the inspiration. There's 4 of us in my apartment, someone's always home, in the same room as ya, it's a little unsettling for me and makes me not want to jam out as long or as much as I want to. But other than that I still get off on it, mainly because I'm in my experimental stage too. 5-6 years of playin and I'm now startin the blues and love it. Throw in my dist and I'm lovin what I'm hearin.

I still love playing, always have and wish I had more time to play. I like improvising and learning new stuff.

Its funny I go through periods of ups and downs with my playing but it always comes back and gives me the same feeling I had when I first picked up an electric and cranked an amp...never fails.

Re: Anyone else here still love playing?

I put that it is among my favourite things. I am going to university to study music for the next four years in my quest for fretboard freedom. I am teaching a lot and playing in restaurants, weddings etc. So I should be in a pretty good position to make a career out of it when I have finished university.
