Here's an article from Maxim on him I had no idea:
Wired Science
Nerd icon Anthony Michael Hall plays nerd zillionaire Bill Gates in TNT’s Pirates of Silicon Valley. But he really wants to rock.
Maxim, June 1999
By Amy Spencer
His favorite thing: His guitar collection, particularly this white Gibson Flying V reissue electric guitar, which the ’80s movie-geek superstar picked up from Prince’s guitar technician. “I like how it feels in my hand. Sometimes I grip it firmly, and sometimes I just keep it hanging low around my waist.” Yes, Michael—he likes to be called Michael—is still talking about his guitar.
Preferred way to destroy his favorite thing: “I would never smash my guitar. But I’m fond of pyrotechnics, so maybe I’d set it on fire, like Hendrix did at Monterey. I’d douse it with a can of gasoline, then light it up.”
Backup stingers: A Stratocaster, a Martin (“the Chevy of acoustic guitars”), and a purple Eddie Van Halen–style model. “When I was filming Weird Science in Chicago, I’d go out to hear live blues, then blow all my money on music equipment."
Fantasy jam sessions: “Bill Gates wailing on my guitar would be great. I’d like to hear him play Hendrix’s ‘Crosstown Traffic’—he’s known to be quite a speed demon in his Porsche.” What if Michael found his mom playing his guitar? “I’d grab a tambourine, and we’d be like the Judds!”
Guitar as dental hygiene: “I often suck on picks or clean my teeth with them. You can just kind of put it there between your two front teeth and contemplate your existence.”
Shameless vanity project: A self-produced CD, Hall of Mirrors, which he sells on his Web site. “It’s a reflection of all my musical influences, like blues, funk, and...’80s OMD. If rock stars can make movies and rappers can make sitcoms, why can’t I make music?”
Favorite member of Josie and the Pussycats: “Melody. Chicks on drums are always good, but a blonde on drums wearing a tight leopard-skin costume? That gets my vote.”
