Re: Back Spasms

+2 to the Chiropractor. I go to this guy who uses this low force crap, he doesn't manipulate you, he has this little hammer looking that, that shoots out 12 whacks a second (*the technique he uses is world renowned and this guys always in Chiropractor mags) that does that. Then he also has all these tools and shit that rub and massage you, then theres the stim pads, and ultra sound. a visit runs in the area of 1 hour with my doc, and my insurance covers every penny.

Or, you can start doing back stretches, because something has made the back spasm (a work injury got me but I went back to work early, because to get full time where I work, you can't be on light duty, and a full time job came up when I was part time and on light duty.)

Leg raises, the bend over touch your toes, this one will sound wierd,

Put your hands on the wall and put your butt out like you're in heat, like really lean into it, then look down, and stretch your neck down, you should feel it in your lower back.

Another one is bring your right knee to your left shoulder (while laying down of course!) and then your left knee to your right shoulder.

I know all these sound like "getting it" positions, but they are actually stretches. I'd post pics for the confused, but I don't want anyone here thinking about giving it to me.

      Mrs. T,

If you are interested in alternative therapies, PM me. I'm a Master Herbalist.
Pain medication only acts as a band-aid as you know, there are other options you can explore that will heal.

      Hope you feel better,

Go to a GOOD Chiropractor. Pain medicine does NOT fix what's wrong. Get surgery if you want some guy who MIGHT know what he's doing cutting you open, and you feel like buying him a new car, or paying off his Condo or sending his kids through College.

Chiropractors will not touch me - I have scoliosis and 2 steel rods attached to my spine. Pain meds and muscle manipulation are about the only things they can do.

I like this idea! That could really work. I know what I'm doing tomorrow night - Todd has all these microbrews that I bought for him. Since he hasn't drank them all yet, I figure they could be put to good use!

Oh that's true. Hmm. That was probably the nicest thing I could say - some of the other things might get me kicked out of here.

How about - Hey Pat - use your imagination.

Oh wait that's probably not better.

It's definitely the way to go. By the time I leave work I'm in seriously hurting shape. Mainly its my skull that hurts most because I've been banging it into the wall in disbelief for hours. Generally after the first dose I know things are gonna be alright. lol

                          Re: Back Spasms

spasms are a symptom of a problem. once you are feeling better, you need to take five minutes a day and do some stretching of you lower back like the ones suggested above. I have found the best remedy for the spasms is a heating pad-I sleep on mine on low setting (I know you are not supposed to, but it works) If you sit in a chair all day at work, get one of those little pillows that will support your lower back. same for your car if you drive alot. If it is bothering you before you go to sleep at night, curl up in the fetal position and squeeze your knees into you chest for a minute or so. I also recommend getting a hot tub....

                            Re: Back Spasms

Amazingly enough - my lower back is not giving me problems. The spasms are near the midback area to the left of the spine and just under the shoulder blade/scapula. I have not had these problems before, although I did have surgery for scoliosis when I was 15 - wow that was awhile back.

I'm sure Em knows more about this but, I'm sure calcium levels being too low or too high can cause spasms.

Lot s of factors though like hydration, and of course as everyone here has already mentioned proper stretching.

All BS aside, try a different chair at work. You'd be amazed at what a "good" chair does for the back! I've had a bunch of them until I found the right one that I can manage for 30 hours a day! Go somewhere and sit in as many as you can, spend as long as you can in each one and get into a position you're mostly in while working.

                                Hope that helps!
