All BS aside, try a different chair at work. You'd be amazed at what a "good" chair does for the back! I've had a bunch of them until I found the right one that I can manage for 30 hours a day! Go somewhere and sit in as many as you can, spend as long as you can in each one and get into a position you're mostly in while working.

Hope that helps!

Pat

Now I'm using my imagination as suggested.... Oops, sorry Todd!

[/ QUOTE ]

I made them come do an ergonomics review and got a new chair that is more comfortable. I also got a headset for my work phone since I'm on it so much. I'm hoping those help - my back doesn't bother me as much at work right now, but I still hurt like hell when I get home.

And shame on you! Todd's gonna kick your butt! St. Louis is not that far away you know!

Travel to St.Louis just for that?

I've got a real good memory, I could wait for NAMM, get him real blind stinking drunk, have you put some makeup on him, and put him in a cab bound for Hollywood.

Re: Back Spasms

Ok...ok, the beer is honestly what I would do. But this has happened to my wife. She said they made her hold her arms over her head when applying the heat and cold packs. Basically the muscle you are having trouble with is probably under you shoulder blade when relaxed. Lifting your arms will give you better access for the heat and cold to penetrate to the affected area. Also PE exercise for that muscle group involve doing something similar to what I would call standing push ups. But you hold the sides of a doorway to do them. That probably sound weird. I told the wife I have no idea how to explain that. She has back problems also. She likes tequila so maybe that's a better option over the beer.

I make a mean Captain and Coke. I think either Kristi likes them or she has several things she needs to strip paint on.

Re: Back Spasms

A chiropractor in traditional form may not touch your back, however the example I highlighted, may be a different light. Maybe you can check out this website (www.lowforce.com) and take a look, I'm not sure where else people do the techniques he does, but I know they are out there, and maybe someone is in your area. Also, even if they are not willing to change anything, they may be able to look for a course of treatment that is not chiropractic in approach.

I don't know if the pain is from your surgeries or what, but if you've got an exisiting back condition, I think you've nailed it on the head there. Then if that's the case, and there is NO recourse they could take, then you would have to go to some sort of pain management. The problem with pain management is they help you manage chronic pain, that pain killers do not make go away (a lot of people become pill heads because of chronic pain, then they still can't get rid of the pain, OD and die, or come close, then pain management sees more patients).

The problem with pain is this, the human body adapts, and responds to things better, as it does them better. Take for instance weight lifting, the more you lift the same wieght the less it does for you, as your body only grows as much as it has to, then it learns to do it without growing, unless you add more work. Or when you go into a room, and your eyes adjust to the light level, and you're better able to see things in the dark, your body gets better as it does it. There are several more examples, but one problem with chronic pain is this,

Pain is a message sent to your brain through your CNS (Central Nervous System). The more pain is sent through your CNS, the more it's used. The more your body does something, the better it becomes. Overtime, you adapt to the pain, the body does not get the message, so the body becomes better, at conveying the message. Bottom line, the more times you're in pain, the better your body is at telling you you're in pain.

For the most part, back problems stem from
Stress, improper position (if you were a guy, I'd say take your wallet out of your back pocket when sitting but I imagine you don't have one in your back pocket)and underworked muscles (meaning underdeveloped).

There are also other cases, and as always, exceptions to the rule.
