Re: Some fast footage check it out

I was almost impressed, but then I turned on my metronome and tried it myself. It turns out that sort of thing is relatively easy to do. Maybe I need a digital video camera and a website too!

these kinds of things are fun, but it doesnt help your playing any. Theres motor skills, but no music skills. New fingerings and timings are more important imo. Noones gonna care if all you can do is play the same thing a million times in a few seconds, when some guy bending one note gets more from the song.

I respectfully disagree, of course it helps your playing. Building technique and speed in proper time does indeed help your playing. The guy wouldn't play 200 bpm's for a solo and fill it up without any phrasing. he is showing an example of an exercise, nothing more nothing less.

Speed is just a tool and to me is much more cool when you use it sparingly around some nice melodic phrases.

Just because someone can run a 4.0 40 doesn't mean he will be a great running back but that is a tool any great running back would want. Same with speed in guitar takes a hell of a lot more than speed to be good... Yes it does but I just get ths jealous feel from people who always say where is the feeling... Well this much can be said dedication is impressive and this dude has a strong feeling for his craft which is playing guitar. He busted his ass learning the discipline. I have no idea how he plays the blues but I know he has devotion to the instrument don't have and a skill I don't have... Shawn Lane coulda put us all to shame and did in many cases but mostly he was so Jazzy and full of taste it was amazing.. Jealosy makes people disregard disciplined players... For shame because they can do that doesn't mean they can't play what you play too... It is like saying well Michael Jordan wasn't as tall as Shaq... True fine whatever

Tets, no need to get aggravated over this...some people are completely, and I mean COMPLETELY, missing the point...it's almost as if they have a preprogrammed response to shredding...regardless of the context...

180bmp..I did not listen with much volume as it is morning.. but I thought that was very cleanly executed..anything over 160bpm is clipping along.

Angelo is a prime example for the negativity associated with speed and shredders. In my mind he is a cold player, very impressive technique but plays nothing of value. That is just my opinion of his playing, others may hear something that I don’t in his playing. Not trying to start a flame war either..

That is the same with this guy, Shawn. I've heard some of his songs, and I didn't like any of them.

GOR, you're dissing him because you've listened to his material and decided he's not your cup o' tea. That's cool. Other folks on this thread are dissing him solely based on a video of him demonstrating sextuplet exercises. That's ludicrous.
