I feel like I was misled at the music store today. I bought a PRS Custom 24, but guess what, I didn't buy a **** custom 24, I bought a CE 24. I can't find any difference save the neck being bolt on and not set neck, but still, this pisses me off. Should I call him or just let it as is? I mean it's like this, I love the guitar, I wouldn't have bought it if not, but another reason I jumped on it, was because I thought it was cheap for a custom 24, The deal was 1166$+ the JJ1 I traded, which on paper gave me 400$. He also dropped the price 100$ from the tag. I'm pretty sure it's a good price for a PRS, but this is the clincher

Should I call up about it, or should I let well enough alone. He didn't like try and convince me it's a custom 24, but I was like, so here I am buying a custom 24, and when we talked about price, he showed me the RETAIL AND SALE prices of a custom 24, not a ce24. My reciept also says Custom 24.

What would you do? (other than learn more about models before you buy them). The guitar smokes, and I've no problem with it, I just don't like feeling like I was misled.

I would go back and get what you want. I don't know the prices of the PRS's but I do know that there is a pretty big difference between a set neck and a bolt-on neck. What are the prices of set neck Customs? Can you buy one for $1166 + a JJ? If you can I would.

I'd raise hell!! Do you do a lot of business with these people?If he showed a price list for a Custom 24 and your reciept says Custom 24, I'd be mad as hell!...Sounds like he might have played you a little bit...............

Well I looked it over, and actually my receipt does say CE 24 on it, as does my hang tag, so maybe this is my own stupidity. I did send him an email letting him know that I was under the impression of getting a custom 24, not a CE 24. However, returning it for another one is not an option, since this was a used guitar, and he doesn't have any used Custom 24s in.

The way I see it is, the only REAL MAJOR difference is the bolt neck vs the set neck.

I guess when I think about it, I've always wanted a guitar like this, because he had one before that he sold, that I was thinking about buying, and I thought it was a custom 24, so I've always thought I wanted a custom 24, I saw this, played it, loved it, bought it.

Bottom line I guess, and maybe I shouldn't be mad is, I wanted a PRS 24 fret guitar, with dots, trans purple looking, trem. Bolt or set neck never occured to me. I also wanted one at a good price, and I found one, that I believe to be fair. He had it hanging for 1599, then dropped it since I'm a return customer, and then gave me 400$ for the JJ.

Maybe I'm just feeling weird about spending the money, and I'm trying to make shit up in my head to **** with myself, I mean he never said, you're getting a custom 24, and mislead me, and both my receipt and the hang tag say it's a CE24. Maybe he showed me the CE24 price, and I'm just retarded. After reviewing some of the features of the guitar, I figure they were upscale (the ebony tuning buttons), and they show a higher premium.

I'm more than likely over reacting, because I'm a piece of shit, that can't read. I looked on eBay, and it seems I got a fair price and I cannot complain. I got a brand new condition PRS for a used price (this guitar doesn't have pick swirls or buckle rash).

I should also mention that it's a CE 24 maple, which means more than the regular one, because it has a flame maple top over a transparent finish.

Welll there is a major dif in the CE from the Custom... Beyond set neck the neck is maple and the custom is Mahogany... in most customs you get HFS pups and I think the CE is Dragon II's. Customs feel better. You have moon inlays most (not all) Customs have Birds (hard to resell the moons) I honestly don't think you knew what you wanted in a PRS or why you wnated a PRS you just had a bug for one [img]/images/graemlins/poke.gif[/img] been there done that. If your CE 24 was new I thnk you got one hell of a price though and no question it is a great piece a Custom is better but going to cost you new 2000 if you are lucky anynmore.. Here is the last CU24 I owned a hell of a guit bt I sell all my PRS guitars they never have the MOJO I need

Toe if I could get custom 24's at the price paid I would take out another mortgage n my house drive to that GC and buy as many as I could and sell on Ebay... Even for a CE though that is a good price!!!

Tetsuo, the PRS website says this,

The CE 24 is mahogany body, and mine has a maple top, okay, that's the SAME as the CU24.

The Custom 24, has birds as an option, not stock on all models.

The CE 24 has HFS pickup in the bridge, and a Vintage bass pickup, which is the same as the CU24.

Saying a guitar with a wide thin neck feels better than a guitar with a wide thin neck, just because it costs more is also incorrect. Personally, after looking I see mine has a maple neck, rather than a mahogany neck, but ALSO the finish on my neck is different, rather than being a laquer, it's a smoother laquer (think a satin finish).

The guitars share the same bridge, scale length, pickups, tuners, back, and top, difference only being in the neck wood, and the bolt on aspect.

Correct me if I'm wrong, because this is the information I got from the PRS website.


I've always wanted a PRS (custom I thought, but it turns out that it was the CE 24) since I played one, and passed it up. I always wanted THIS finish, the moon (or as I call them dot inlays) trem, and wide thin neck, and the one I played before was a bolt on (meaning the one I played before also wasn't a custom, it was a CE).

The guitar is used, but there is not a SINGLE mark ANYWHERE. It's just like it came from the factory, I guess the guy bought it, took it back to the store after he had it sit under his bed for a year, and sold it back to the store. There is no buckle rash, fret wear, fret dirt, anything. It's just as if you got it factory fresh.

I'm saying it for the record, I jumped the gun. I usually know my shit when it comes to stuff, and the guy knows this, maybe he just took into account that I'm usually pretty educated. That and the statement "I've always wanted one of these in this color, with a trem, with these pickups, with a wide thin neck" leads him to believe I knew what I was talking about.

After thinking about it for awhile, I've played several Custom 24s (the set neck ones) because he had them in like amber and crap colors I didn't want, and they just didnt' play like the other ones I played (meaning the 1st one I was going to buy but passed on a year ago, and then this one.)

I can't complain about this guitar at all, granted my top sure as hell isn't a 10 top, but it's nice, and I like the guitar. In my ignorance, I got a quick education in guitars, AND I unloaded that fukking bastard child JJ for more than I had into it, which is always nice.


I can't say that my top is the best, but it's sure nice to me, and well I like it. I'll post pics in the post your gear pics thread, but it will probably take awhile, because I'm too **** busy playing this guitar!

Dude-do you like the guitar? Does it sound and play good? DO you think the price was good? If you answered yes to all these questions, stop worrying about ti and just play it. If you really decide you don't want it after all, you can probably make back most of your money when you resell it, since PRS's seem to hold there value pretty well. If anyhting, hold onto it until you find the one you like and use it as a trade in. Relax!

I have a CE24 as well. An early model, with the short heel.

It's definitely one of the best playing and sounding guitars I have. And even though it's stupid, I actually like being able to say I have a PRS in my collection.

You got it for a good price. You'll probably be able to get your money back down the road for sure.

Bottom line, don't sweat it. Although I have to say, if your're sitting there in the music store, playing it, calling it a Custom 24, and the sales guy didn't correct you...that's pretty freaking lame. Especially if you're a good customer of his.
