Family history says it comes from "Stallingsboro" England which was supposedly obliterated by Vikings.
The Stallings part meant 'stableboy' or 'keeper of horses'.

That site says "North German:Unexplained" though

The odd thing is that the oldest relative of mine is supposedly a Viking named "Hairy Breeches" [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

So maybe "North Germany:Unexplained" is a better answer!

I believe that means your last name has been so modified by the US Census division since the 20's and 30's that it is no longer listed in any immigration records and therefore, cannot be traced... as was mine.

My Maiden name means : heathen (one not enrolled in the army of Christ)

But this I knew. As all of my family are Pagans, Witches or Gypsies and we are close to our Ancestoral history.

Which makes my married last name absolutely hilarious!! It means: being given in honor of St. John the Baptist, precursor of Christ, and of St. John the Evangelist
