I heard on Tom Hicks (Dallas Stars owner) on the radio on the way home and he said he doesn't feel confident that they will play this year as they are a ways away on the cap. They asked him about next year and he said there's going to be hockey next year for the Dallas Stars whether there is a new CBA or not, meaning replacement players.

The sticking point will be percentages of revenues, with the damage this has done to the NHL, they are going to have to cut prices to win the fans back and even deal with reduced attendance. Players are too stupid to understand that aspect. While I agree with cost certainty why do successful organizations have to financially subsidize weaker franchises in markets the game just isn’t a good sell?

As much as I love the game and the NHL, the season is a wash, cancel it. They really don’t have time for 28 games with ½ the players in Europe.

The cap won't kill the Wings, maybe in yesterdays NHL but not going forward, 8 million/yr salaries are a thing of the past. They have a good organization and talent recruitment. Not having a cap didn't win them the cup, sure it helped but deep pockets really don't mean anything (NYR-COL-DAL-DET didn't win every year when they had high payrolls)

I disagree. Not having a cap DID help them win the cup. They just picked the right players, as opposed to the rangers ( 9 mil for holik???) The players are a bunch of whiny **** babies, IMO.

I agree totally. Neither side gives a flying fukk about the fans. The fact that they waited until it was just about too late before they even started to do any real negotiating proves it. Everybody knew the 11th hour was coming. All the last-second scrambling just seems pathetic.

Actually I don't think the cap will hurt the Red Wings too much, but they are going to lose their 2 best players to retirement (Steve Yzerman and Dominik Hasek)

yeah the NHLPA countered with a cap of 49 million mentioned in Bettmans letter that said the 42.5 wasn't negotiable.

If I were the NHL every proposal from this point on goes down on the cap number. Next proposal would be 40 mil, if the PA rejects it, the one after that is 38 Million etc. etc. etc. You have to remember that the NHL only has a small percentage of "star" players. There is enough talent in the major junior leagues and in Europe to have competitive league without the star players who don't know what its like to work real job.

My gut tells me its over. We will not see hockey in the USA (NHL Lewel)for at least a year. That will ruin this great sport in the US. Hockey at the minor level has sufferd greatly as well, the NHL gave over 25 million every year to youth programs etc. This year the gave out "0". This strike has cost me a great deal. I hope they don't kill the sport for good. Even if there is a season I don't think I'll watch. Look at all the people they have put out of work. Lives have been ruined. I still love the game, I'm just pissed off at it now.

With all of us salivating for a salvaged season (try saying that three times and fast!!!!), you can't just put that out there without stating whether it's fact or your own personal speculation. Then if it's fact you gotta say where you got the info.

Mike and Mike were talking to a few people this morning on ESPN radio that have said as much. Not fact but a reality... The owners hold the cards they can always go to scabs and some players are desperate... THis season would still be done though most likley but because of the fact that the owners have the power it behooves the players to make a deal today
