• Need help selecting a GOOD portable MP3 player

I'm only want to get one for working out...it'll help me do more cardio if I've got Iced Earth blowing my ears out.
Anyways...I bought a POS Buslink 512MB flash one and the thing didn't work right out of the box. So that's gone now...I was looking at iRiver...but I've read one bad review about the joystick being a pain to use...very sensitive.
Like I said I'm only going to use it while I work out...512MB should be good for me...I wouldn't mind a built in FM radio, but not necessary...I think flash is the way to go...and USB for ease of use too. I want to stay under $200...I was looking at the iRiver 795 and 895 models. Priced around $132...

Any suggestions???????

Thanks,

512mb? get the entry level ipod shuffle. made with mobility in mind. $99 for the 512mb size. if you want something a little more, go with the ipod mini (they're lighter than the 20gb ipods, which would be a plus for workouts). more info at www.apple.com/ipodshuffle

yes you must at least get the ipod mini. Everyone says they don't need alot of space at first, but after awhile you'll get sick of switching out songs. There's a reason that 50% of Chicago has an ipod - it's a great product.

I have a 20GB Dell MP3 player for round $180ish. It's pretty damn good, cheap and plugs into the computer via USB

I have a Nomad 40gb its cool-good sound quality-heavier than an ipod though-

yea at least get 5gb-you can go through a lot of music working out and you can only listen an cd so many times-then you have to reload it before you workout ect-pain

Most of the guys at my gym use RCA Lyra's. They hold 3 hours of music and come with a armband. The unit is the size of a watch. The headphones are the seperate ear style where they clip around your ears so they don't fall off. Musicmatch software is simple to use and 3 hours of music is usually plenty. I got my son one for $99.00 brand new. I see them on Ebay all the time for under $50.00

I still suggest the Mini disc... best option IMO

Which MD do you use? What software do you use? I just got a Sony MZ-N707 and although I haven't used it yet it looks pretty cool.

I got my wife a Lyra 1021a (64MB) and it takes SD cards. 1GB SD can be had cheaply too.

John's right, they are the best unit size wise and the headphones work great without going inside your ears. The 64MB onboard is too small and 128MB model is just barely useable - but it's expandable! Got mine for $68

A Sony one from about two years ago... I use the MD software which sucks because you can't port back to your PC some of the things you record. There are sites taht talk about that though. I prefer it to a straight MP3 player espescially when I got mine was holding size and the fact I can record 10 discs and just have them to choose from and they are infinitly recordable too..

Re: Need help selecting a GOOD portable MP3 player

I had a Lyra for the gym but, some one needed it more than me and stole it.

Sound was good and it kept me on the cross trainer for 20 minutes or more. My good friend bought me a little yepp to stop me from bitching but, it's awful...(I don't tell him that) You don't want that.

I debating the Lyra again cuz that sucker took a beating. I found just hanging it around the neck like a stop watch worked great except for concentration curls but I'd just hold it in the other hand. Not sure how tough the iPod would be.
