    [ QUOTE ]
Vai's new CD is pretty cool.
I still prefer his older stuff in 80's and until mid 90's though.

Yeah, I was wondering that, too. I bought his new CD from the Sony music store and it shipped yesterday. So, maybe I'll get it before it comes out next Tuesday!

Not so fast... It won't be on store shelves until next Tuesday (2/22).
I pre-ordered my copy from the Sony online store. It comes with a pack of Vai picks, too.

Vai is a true master of the guitar. I don't care for him. To me, his playing is masterful but his songwriting sucks. Very few of his songs or guitar solo's have ever inspired me to do anything except turn the radio off. I did like the DLR stuff though.

Yeah, that's it. Shredding is cool, but shreding doesn't make a song in and of itself (no matter what Wingnut Malmstream thinks) and often doesn't make even hardcore guitar fans want to listen for very long. We remember Yankee Rose, Ladies Night in Buffalo, Crazy From the Heat, Hina, Skyscraper, Two Fools a Minute, etc. because they were great songs.

New CD is the one which hasn't been out yet.
I got the advanced promo CD about 2weeks ago.
                    It has 11 or 12songs.
Has been in my Car Stereo since I got it and I like it.

I listened to the clips, bretty impressive, Steve used 7 string for crunchy stuff, very progressive.
I like Steve a lot because he makes always something new, every album is different and he can write very good tunes too (pop songs and stuff)

I like the playing and the tone. I just don't like the songs. He is too off the wall and too technical for me. I like my shredding a little more straight forward.

I've been a Vai fan since DLR and can't wait to hear this song "freak show excess" that he analyzes in the interview. But as much as I like him, I'm a little like John (jgcable) in that I prefer more "straight-ahead" shredding like Yngwie and Gilbert.

I always thought P&W would be his best solo effort but I picked up Alien Love Secrets last month and it is great!

I just remembered. Hippietim, are doing the week-long Vai tour roadtrip you had thought about?

I always liked Vai more than other shredders because he isn't so "straigh-ahead", I just love that odd sh1t he is doing and his great sense of humour. And IMO he is absolutely the best when it comes to expressing emotions thru music.
